Dental Assistant – Oral Health Aboriginal Traineeship Program

Position Overview Employment Status: 1 x Temporary Full-Time (up to 12 months) This position is a temporary full‑time position supported through the WSLHD Aboriginal Training Pathways Program. The incumbent will be employed on a 12‑month contract as a Dental Assistant – WSLHD Trainee. Planned outcome: a skilled Dental Assistant upon completion of the traineeship. The trainee will undertake a nationally recognised health related qualification, including automatic enrollment in a Certificate III in Dental Assisting. Responsibilities Chairside assisting Management of infection control Instrument preparation Dental charting Sterilisation Patient care Qualifications Minimum Year 10 School Education or above. Selection Criteria This is an identified position for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants, as permitted under Section 14 of the Anti‑Discrimination Act 1977. Applicants must identify as Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, be of that descent, and be accepted by community. Completion of Year 10 or above. Demonstrated ability to manage work and study commitments, willingness to undertake on‑job training and classroom learning to complete Certificate III in Dental Assisting within 12 months. Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, ability to work cooperatively within a team and follow instructions. Willingness and ability to work across multiple dental clinic locations within Western Sydney Local Health District, including Westmead and Mount Druitt Hospitals.
