About The Role The Operations Officer supports the Operations Supervisor in the day-to-day coordination and oversight of trade, grounds, and engineering maintenance contractors across Swinburne University of Technology. The role requires the ability to: Work independently with minimal supervision across all campuses. Interpret and apply existing policies to day-to-day tasks. Use industry knowledge, analytical capability, and strong problem-solving skills to inform decisions. Adapt methods and practices to ensure buildings and facilities meet all code and statutory requirements, maintaining a safe and dependable environment. Deliver minor works programs for Swinburne’s infrastructure assets. Undertake occasional hands‑on tasks when required. About You Extensive operational experience in a large multi‑faceted organisation with proven ability in facility maintenance services supervising human and physical resources. Working knowledge of current OHS building, essential services, and related regulations. Ability to prioritise work requirements and to lead, direct and motivate technical, contractors and professional persons. Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills including report writing. Ability to identify and consider technical problems in order to resolve in a timely and cost-effective manner. Knowledge of computerized/automated building management systems, fire panels and work request systems. A trade background in either Building Fabric, HVAC, Electrical, ESM would be ideal.
