In 2025, we have a student population of approximately 2400 students. We offer a broad range of programmes from Years 7-12, culminating in a highly effective VCE programme in the senior years. In 2024 our VCE results ranked us as the highest performing non‑select entry state school in Southern Melbourne, and we also outperformed many private schools in the district. Our literacy and numeracy data indicates that we are providing robust instruction and support for students, with all NAPLAN growth and achievement levels significantly above state, similar school and network averages. The College has a strong focus on developing numeracy and literacy skills for all students and has a range of programmes to support student development. The College also has a strong focus on developing leadership skills for staff. This includes a structured Leadership Development Programme and one‑to‑one GROWTH coaching available for staff. We take particular pride in our approach to supporting and mentoring teachers who are new to the profession. Graduate teachers are supported to achieve their full registration with VIT through a simple and streamlined process with extensive support. In addition to the regular 5% reduction, our beginning teachers have their teaching load further reduced to give them access to DE's "Career Start Programme" which includes PD and additional mentoring. Our Teaching and Learning Cycle provides a sharp focus for teachers to plan and deliver high quality instructional practice. Selection Criteria SC1 Demonstrated high quality instrumental music tuition and ensemble leading skills with a capacity to successfully employ flexible and adaptive approaches that allow students to reach their full potential. SC2 Demonstrated high level knowledge of instrumental music curricula including VCE music performance. SC3 Demonstrated ability to choose relevant and challenging repertoire for both instrumental and ensemble programmes. SC4 Demonstrated capacity to work successfully as a member of the music team. SC5 Demonstrated high level communication skills. Role The successful candidate will provide tuition to students ranging from Years 7–12 individually or in groups and work within a dynamic Music Department alongside other instrumental teachers to assist in the development of the Guitar and Bass Guitar culture at the College, demonstrating enthusiasm towards participation in performances and concerts. The ability to provide tuition in a wide range of music genres is necessary, but in particular the successful candidate should have a strong contemporary background and understanding of the VCE Guitar and Bass Syllabus and requirements for successful performance in a VCE recital. Experience in running and leading Guitar type ensembles is necessary and the successful applicant may be required to take ensemble rehearsals each week before or after school as well as participate in concerts within the music program as stipulated by the Instrumental Music Coordinator. Responsibilities Provide weekly individual/group instrumental music tuition – Guitar / Bass Guitar. Develop/source repertoire for a college ensemble as required by the Instrumental Music Coordinator. Direct a college ensemble for weekly rehearsals and performances as required throughout the year. Communicate effectively with students, parents and colleagues via school‑based platforms – Compass and MS Teams. Support the Instrumental Music Coordinator with delivery of music‑based school events – concerts, performances, etc. Maintain effective data/record keeping. Report on student progress, learning and behaviour. Establish and maintain professional, respectful, supportive and effective working relationships with all colleagues.
