The Opportunity An opportunity now exists to join MBS in this high impact role as Events Business Development Lead. You will join a team responsible for external conference activity at MBS, with a focus on business development and relationship management. Working with the Conference and Events Manager, you will set the strategic direction for increasing conference activity, supporting the marketing of external conferencing, and developing new leads to increase overall revenue. The role will require relationship building networking activity, development of potential leads, and will also ensure the School’s external rates and offerings align within the market. The role will require a high level of initiative and the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including clients and guests, corporate partners, marketing, business development, communications, and corporate services staff. As the successful candidate, you will have a thorough understanding of, and be able to demonstrate, sales processes and techniques. This includes conducting sales meetings, eliciting information and briefing development, developing and pitching proposals, negotiating, upselling, closing and contracting. About you An experienced events professional with exemplary customer service skills, you will have a demonstrated track record in a sales focused role, preferably gained within the hotel, education, conference, events or meetings, incentives, or Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) space This will be accompanied by: Proven ability to achieve sales targets and develop new relationships. Considerable experience in event management, coordination and business administration. Sales, planning and delivery experience of conferences and/or other large-scale events. Financial management and planning skills Contract management, resource management and strategic planning skills Judgement and perspective on complex people issues including an ability to balance commercial needs with the intricacies of human behaviour. Ability to be ‘hands on’ as required.
