Research & Project Support Officer (Work from Home) First Nations Advocates Against Family Violence – Darwin NT First Nations Advocates Against Family Violence (FNAAFV) is the national peak body for community‑controlled Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations across Australia that provide legal and other holistic and culturally safe services to First Nations people affected by family violence – predominantly First Nations women and their children. FNAAFV’s mission is to support members and, as a foundational member of the Coalition of Peaks, to lead efforts to reduce family violence affecting First Nations people. About the Position The Project Officer is part of FNAAFV and supports the organisation’s overall strategic aims. The Project Officer will be responsible for progressing FNAAFV commitments under a National Partnership Agreement with National Legal Aid and Women’s Legal Services Victoria to deliver national eLearning training on “understanding coercive control when providing legal assistance” (Coercive Control eLearning Project). The Coercive Control eLearning Project is a key mechanism for embedding the National Principles to Address Coercive Control in Family and Domestic Violence into legal practice. Core Responsibilities Project Support & Co‑ordination Analysing qualitative and quantitative data to identify community and legal practice priorities, trends, and gaps. Coordinating and supporting qualitative data collection activities, such as interviews with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders. Assisting with preparation of advice, context, inputs, and briefings for key stakeholders. Acting as a key liaison between FNAAFV and external stakeholders to ensure tasks are clearly delegated and timeframes are met. Supporting the day‑to‑day tracking of deliverables, deadlines, and workflows to keep the project on schedule. Leading the coordination of project plans, calendars, and timelines. Supporting engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, government stakeholders, and sector representatives, ensuring culturally appropriate and timely communication. Other Responsibilities Develop and contribute to a team environment, working collaboratively in sharing and generating ideas, empowered to achieve outcomes. Contribute to regular staff meetings. Communicate effectively and openly in the workplace. Complete tasks in a timely manner and meet strict deadlines. Participate in professional development including self‑directed learning and required training. Ensure FNAAFV policies, standards and operations are adhered to. Contribute to the effort of FNAAFV and the FNAAFV team by accomplishing duties. Demonstrate knowledge of occupational health & safety, and equal employment opportunity and comply with associated organisational policies. FNAAFV is a national organisation, and as such it is expected that all staff are willing and able to travel to other FNAAFV locations to support the needs of the FNAAFV organisational outcomes. This would be minimal. Essential Qualification Requirements Certificate III or above in a related field (Required) Experience in Government or the Aboriginal Controlled Organization sector (Highly Desirable) Bachelor’s Degree (Desirable) Essential Compliance Requirements Holder of a current open Australian driver’s license. Willingness to undertake a National Police Clearance check. Selection Criteria Relevant qualifications or equivalent knowledge, experience and training. Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple moving parts across a complex project. Demonstrated experience providing project or administrative support in a policy, community services, or advocacy context. Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to demonstrate tact and discretion. Familiarity with the Closing the Gap framework and key issues facing the DFSV sector is highly desirable. Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, preferably in a research or policy context. Experience in handling sensitive and confidential matters. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy. Flexible and adaptable with the willingness to take on a wide range of diverse tasks and adjust to shifting priorities in a changing environment.
