The role leads design development and integration across civil, structures, architecture / building services, track, rail systems (signalling, ETCS, HV / LV, comms), SESA, and operations / maintenance interfaces. It ensures designs are safe, compliant, constructible, and value-for-money, and that technical risks are identified early and resolved through disciplined assurance and stakeholder engagement. Furthermore, the role seamlessly engages stakeholders including Queensland Rail on technical matters. Please note the team is very lean during the current planning phase, likely to comprise yourself and at least 1 other resource, so a 'hands on' approach is mandatory for success. This Job closes on 12th December at 3pm Brisbane time. Key responsibilities Leadership & coordination: Direct multidisciplinary design teams and SMEs; quality and construction safety targets; drive a safety-in-design and workplace culture within the rail environment. Design management: Plan deliverables and stage gates; manage IDC/IDR, Queensland Rail Change Configuration Process (RCCP) Gates, TQ/RFI close-out, and configuration/change control from concept through IFC/As-Built. Technical assurance: Establish and run the assurance plan (e.g., Safety in Design (SiD), Risk Assessment Method (RAM) / So Far As Is Reasonably Practicable (SFAIRP) / As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP), verification & validation, independent reviews) to applicable rail, Design and Construct standards. Interfaces & integration: Own interfaces between station works, track, rail systems, utilities, third parties, brownfield possessions, and operations/maintainers. Also develop and manage stakeholders interfaces, e.g. Queensland Rail. Constructability & commissioning support: Embed construction and staging inputs; support site queries, non-conformance resolution, test/commissioning, and handover. Stakeholder management: Engage stakeholders, regulators, operators, and community; secure timely approvals and departures/exemptions where required. Program, cost, and risk: Integrate engineering with schedule and budget; run risk/issue registers; drive value engineering and whole-of-life outcomes. Digital engineering & information management: Enforce BIM/CDE protocols, model/drawing standards, and data handover requirements (asset information, O&M). Procurement & contracts support: Provide technical inputs to packages, tender evaluations, and contractor management (scope clarity, performance requirements). Job Requirements - Mandatory Experience Degree in Engineering (civil, electrical, mechanical, systems or related); Chartered status (e.g., CPEng) and/or RPEQ for Australian projects. Demonstrated application of rail and building codes/standards (e.g., relevant Australian Standards, signalling/power/comms standards; or equivalent client specs). Proven track record running formal design reviews, technical assurance, safety-in-design, and V&V to handover. Strong written outputs (basis of design, design certificates, technical memos) and executive-level reporting. Strong interface management in brownfield rail environments (possessions, commissioning, live operations). Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and decision-making under schedule and cost constraints. RIW and familiar with QR SEMS. Desirable Experience Systems engineering and RAM/EN50126/8/9 familiarity; hazard identification, risk assessment, and ALARP practice. Experience with digital engineering toolsets (CDEs, BIM/IFC, Navisworks/Revit/12d/Civil3D), document control, and review platforms (e.g., Bluebeam). Constructability and staging expertise (temporary works, utilities, traffic/rail access planning), SCAS, and commissioning/handover planning. Contract awareness, project scope definition, and technical requirement inputs to procurement (PSTR) and commercial management. Leadership that builds high-performing teams including mentoring, competency management, resource planning, and clear KPIs. Rail and Construction Safety. Rail and Construction Safety Working Conditions Office-based role with regular travel to project sites and stakeholder meetings. This role may require extended hours and availability outside of standard work hours to manage project demands. A standard week is no more than 40 hours. #J-18808-Ljbffr
