About the role Are you passionate about improving health outcomes for Aboriginal communities? We have an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal Health Practitioner to join the Healthy Deadly Feet Program in Tamworth. This role is all about making a real difference by supporting culturally safe care and helping mob stay strong and healthy.As an Aboriginal Health Practitioner, you will work closely with clients to provide education, support, and advocacy around foot health and chronic disease prevention. You’ll assist with performing basic foot care, assisting podiatrists with assessment/treatment, coordinate appointments, and help people navigate the health system in a way that respects culture and community. Your role is vital in building trust and ensuring care is delivered in a culturally safe way. There is a lot of support for this role. You’ll have an onsite manager, with additional support from the Allied Health Directorate manager for professional queries. Onsite there is the Podiatry team to go to for clinical questions, who will be able to help you upskill. You’ll have access to ongoing training and professional development, as well as cultural supervision, and mentorship from experienced Aboriginal health staff. We also provide a strong network of peers across the region, so you’ll never feel like you’re doing this alone. Where you’ll be working You’ll be part of a passionate Podiatry team that includes podiatrists, nurses, and other allied health professionals. We work together to provide holistic care, and we value the knowledge and connection you bring to the community. The team is supportive, collaborative, and committed to closing the gap in health outcomes. This position would be working in a community setting, which involves clinic, community, and outreach services. The team provide community-focused healthcare to help improve diabetes related foot disease outcomes within the Health Deadly Feet Program. About you For this role, we’re looking for someone who’s deeply connected to culture and community and can make people feel safe and supported. You’ll need to be a great communicator who can build trust and work well with others. The technical skills like foot health screening and using health systems can be taught on the job, but cultural knowledge, problem solving skills, empathy, and the ability to advocate for clients are what we are looking for in this position.
