Whittlesea Community Connections – Mernda VIC Mernda Repair Café is the first community Repair Program for the community of Whittlesea hosted at the Mernda Community House and outdoor community space. It is a free, inclusive and cross‑cultural community event that offers repairs of personal items by volunteer Repairers. Our focus is to bring awareness of a more sustainable lifestyle where we can divert items from landfill in our community. We hope to ignite interest and the sharing of skills in repair and maintenance of items. Join the Team: Be an Eco Warrior and help the community to reduce waste going to landfill. To assist with the sharpening of tools that a community member has brought to the event. To share your knowledge of tool sharpening and maintenance with the community. Please note that community members are responsible in bringing their own replacement or broken parts, if possible. Volunteer Responsibilities To sharpen tools to a working order, if possible. Assess whether the tools and/or knife is repairable or not during the event. Bring their own tool bag for the role. Maintain repair café machinery and tools to a working order. Setup and pack down the workspace at events. Notify any issues with tools and low stock of the Repair café toolkit. Notify the Repair Café Coordinator and support staff of any electrical, tool or interpersonal issues at the event. Category : Community Services Commitment : Regular - more than 6 months Type Of Work : Trades & Maintenance Time Required : Repair café events will be held at the Mernda Community House, 2 Heals Road, Mernda, VIC. Events run once a month on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm. Volunteers will be required to either come earlier to set up at 9:30am.
