Do you have experience and a good understanding of the day‑to‑day requirements of legal practice, particularly in criminal law or commercial law? In the role of Lawyer (Professional Conduct) with the Legal Services Commission you will be part of a team responsible for assessing, investigating, and reviewing complaints and recommending what action the Commissioner should take, as well as assisting with preparations for prosecution or other enforcement action. Your experience in practising law in the private sector will give you the skills needed to deal effectively with complaints and investigations. Responsibilities Communicate effectively with and manage the expectations and demands of a wide range of internal and external clients, including senior members of the legal profession, clients and members of the public with limited understanding of the legal system. Assess and advise in relation to complaints about conduct within the Commission's jurisdiction, within the performance criteria set by the Commissioner. Investigate and review complaints about the conduct of lawyers, law practice employees and unlawful operators, recommending actions the Commissioner should take. Identify apparent misconduct not subject to complaint and recommend that the Commissioner initiate investigations as appropriate. Assist other teams, such as the Litigation team, in preparing matters, recommending improvements to policies, procedures and management systems, and contributing to the Commission's research, policy and educational activities. You will Abide by the Australian Solicitor Conduct Rules (as amended) and display high standards of professional ethical conduct at all times, in addition to any other professional obligations. Be eligible for appointment as an investigator under the Legal Profession Act 2007 (any such appointment is at the Commissioner's discretion). To be successful Proven ability to deliver high‑quality performance outcomes and customer service, managing a range of projects with conflicting timeframes. High‑level communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills, and ability to develop collaborative relationships with a broad range of stakeholders. Contributing to a collaborative and positive team culture, and continual improvement. Commitment to professional excellence through ongoing development of professional, legal, leadership and management skills. Unquestionable ethics and integrity.
