Engineering Manager – Sydney or Melbourne This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast‑paced environments, enjoys building structure and capability, solving complex technical challenges, and is passionate about developing both people and technology. We are partnering with a high‑growth, market‑leading business that is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead, mentor, and scale a high‑performing engineering team. You’ll influence technical direction, uplift capability, and directly contribute to the success and maturity of the product and engineering organisation. Base pay range A$200,000.00/yr - A$220,000.00/yr Experience Required Must have built and scaled engineering teams from the ground up Must be a ‘hands‑on’ leader, prepared to roll up their sleeves and get into the technical detail Must come from a software development background, and ideally have 7+ years of hands‑on software development experience Must have 3+ years of Engineering Management experience Will need strong Agile delivery and modern engineering practice experience Strong proficiency in at least one object‑oriented language (C#, Java, C++) Strong SQL/Database experience (SQL Server, Postgres, Redis) Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices Responsibilities Lead, coach, and mentor 2x squads of 5‑8 software engineers, including performance reviews, growth planning, and career development Partner closely with Product Managers to define the technical roadmap and ensure seamless project delivery Drive team execution through agile methodologies—overseeing sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand‑ups Champion engineering best practices, high‑quality code, and scalable technical standards Manage resource planning, assess team capacity, and identify future hiring needs Build engineering capability from the ground up in a scaling environment Establish engineering processes, rituals, and standards that enable teams to operate efficiently as the business grows Scale teams sustainably—supporting workforce planning, interviewing, and hiring high‑calibre talent Foster a strong engineering culture built on collaboration, learning, and psychological safety Work cross‑functionally with other Engineering Managers to align technology decisions and allocate resources effectively Seniority level : Mid‑Senior level Employment type : Full‑time Job function : IT Services and IT Consulting and Software Development Referrals increase your chances of interviewing at Latitude IT by 2x.
