Join to apply for the Deputy Director-General role at Queensland GovernmentAs a senior executive leader in Queensland Government, the Deputy Director-General will display outstanding judgment, high‑level integrity and resilience, strong agility to adapt to a constantly changing environment, a strong achievement orientation and excellent communication and negotiation skills. You will provide high‑level strategic and operational advice to the Minister, Director‑General, the department’s Board of Management and senior executives across a wide variety of matters to meet strategic objectives and key reforms, including but not limited to organisational design, procurement, systems and policy development and implementation, change management, leadership and employee capability, cultural capability and diversity. As an executive, your performance will be assessed according to four key accountability perspectives: stakeholder and outcome, internal business, financial, and learning and growth. Stakeholder and outcome Represent the Director‑General in statewide forums and provide strategic, authoritative advice to the Minister, Director‑General and across Government on commissioning directions to advance Queensland’s agenda including services to respond to and build safety for children, families, women and people experiencing violence. Build and drive strategic partnerships with a range of key stakeholders, including not‑for‑profit organisations, for‑profit, corporate organisations, local government agencies, peak and oversight bodies and community groups. Oversee the strategic and effective allocation of investment funds, the procuring and commissioning of services, and management of grant programmes. Lead programme design and implement recommendations to drive the reform agenda across children and families, improve outcomes for victim survivors, and support the service sector. Direct the performance, service delivery and coordination of services to ensure responsive, inclusive, efficient and accessible services and support to service users and key stakeholders. Efficiently navigate and manage highly complex stakeholder engagement and relationships across multiple service sectors. Demonstrate expertise and experience in working with First Nations community leaders, local councils, government agencies and stakeholders to enhance outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders. Internal business > Develop a highly engaged and capable workforce and executive leadership team through a positive workplace culture of achievement, values and a shared focus on innovation and continuous improvement to deliver quality services. Monitor and evaluate services to assess demand from the community and oversee the implementation of new approaches to processes, technology, strategies and outcomes informed by professional expertise, experience and evidence to optimise performance and service delivery across the workforce. Exercise strong judgement and strategic acumen, with the ability to identify emerging issues and think innovatively beyond conventional norms. Possess a comprehensive understanding of navigating complex public administration policies and systems. Display significant levels of autonomy and delegation, allowing flexibility in adapting and responding to need. Demonstrate expertise in driving reforms and continuous improvements. Maintain an optimistic outlook and foster a workplace culture where all individuals share a personal responsibility for promoting the physical and psychological health and safety of others. Drive a culture of respect and inclusivity across the organisation, prioritising service delivery that is accessible and considers diverse needs. Financial Ensure effective management and monitoring of the division’s budget, and staff establishment in accordance with statutory responsibilities, government priorities and departmental policies and procedures. Learning and growth Lead with integrity, promote inclusion and support cultural capability, particularly in working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Foster a positive, high‑performing workplace that prioritises staff wellbeing, diversity and continuous improvement.
