YOUR ROLE IN OUR FUTURE Join Our Team at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Instrument Technician – Grade 3 or 4 2x Permanent Full Time Roles $71,141.20 to $73,802 (pro‑ratio for part time) + salary packaging + super + 5 weeks annual leave About Peter Mac Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is Australia’s only public hospital solely dedicated to cancer treatment, research, and education. We aim to provide the best in cancer care through Excellence, Compassion, and Innovation. Peter Mac does NOT have its own dedicated CSSD department. The specialised Instrument Technician team performs tasks including scope processing, decontamination and surgical set‑ups. Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is home to 8 Operating Theatres, including Endoscopy, covering a variety of specialities such as Plastics/Breast, General surgery, Gynaecology/Brachy, Urology, Robotic, Head and Neck, Colorectal, Vascular & Upper GI. Position Overview We’re seeking enthusiastic and skilled Instrument Technicians (Grade 3 or 4) to join our Operating Theatre (CSSD). In this role you’ll contribute to safe patient care by ensuring that reusable surgical instruments, endoscopes and medical consumables are reprocessed to the highest standards in line with AS/NZS 5369. Remuneration is as per the Health and Allied Services, Managers and Administrative Workers (Victorian Public Sector) Enterprise Agreement 2021‑2025. Appointment to grade 3 or 4 will depend on experience. Key Responsibilities Perform manual and automated cleaning of surgical instruments and reusable medical devices. Operate Soluscope AERs and Soluscope drying cabinets for high‑level disinfection of endoscopes. Follow validated sterilisation practices and comply within infection control guidelines. Coordinate between Peter Mac and the RMH CSSD. Assemble and inspect surgical instrument trays with accuracy and attention to detail. Ensure tray contents match detailed count sheets and configure sets for use in theatres and procedural rooms. Package, wrap, and label instruments correctly for sterilisation (Low Temp). Assist with theatre set‑ups, delivering and configuring instrument sets/consumables to meet scheduled surgical requirements. Respond efficiently to urgent case requests and ensure timely turnaround of critical items. Receive and debox surgical consumables, ensuring sterility, expiry, and compliance requirements are met. Manage and store consumables safely in appropriate CSSD or theatre storage areas. Perform manual cleaning, leak testing, and transport of endoscopes for reprocessing. Execute full reprocessing cycles including cleaning, disinfection, drying, and storage using Soluscope systems. Maintain accurate records via Censitrac or equivalent tracking systems. Complete sterilisation batch documentation, including BI results, wash validations and cycle parameters. Assist in audits, stocktakes and quality assurance activities. Collaborate with theatre nurses, theatre technicians and other CSSD staff. Participate in ongoing education, in‑services and professional competency development. Promote safe practice, continuous improvement and patient‑first outcomes. About You (Essential Requirements) Certificate III or IV in Sterilisation Services (or working towards). Minimum 2 years’ CSSD experience; advanced competency or leadership readiness for Grade 4. Strong understanding of ANSI/AAMI and AS/NZS 5369 standards. Experience using instrument tracking software (such as Censitrac). High attention to detail, critical problem‑solving and strong communication skills. Why Peter Mac? Ability to take initiative in prioritising workload. Experience in an Endoscopy Department. Experience in CSSD. Experience in an Operating Suite environment.
