Water Treatment Operator Townsville City Council

Overview This position will routinely perform sampling and inspection regimes and make operational changes guided by, but not limited to, the Townsville Water Drinking Water Quality Management Plan and the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. This position will be responsible for servicing a population of approximately 194,072 across 85,952 connected properties. In the 2018/2019 financial year 46,810ML of potable water was delivered to our customers via 4 treatment plants, 23 water pumping stations, 18 chlorinators, 41 reservoirs and 2,654km of distribution mains. Responsibilities Some specifics of the role include: Accurately record data such as water quality characteristics, operator logs, daily diaries, system readings and meter readings. Maintain adequate chemical supply across assigned sites and order, receive, check, and deliver. Assist with reactive and planned maintenance activities on assigned assets. Housekeeping associated with various treatment plant sites and function. This role is required to participate in the on-call roster and overtime arrangements as required, to resolve out of hours operational issues or emergency works including disaster management. Qualifications Certificate III in Water Treatment desirable. Tertiary qualifications in science for a related discipline would be well regarded. Senior First Aid and CPR Certification. Confined Space Entry Certification. Construction Industry White Card (30215 QLD). Current C Class Drivers Licence. Licence to perform high risk work – LF Forklift Truck. Knowledge of modern water treatment theory and processes. Knowledge of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. Skilled in the application of water treatment principles to potable water systems. Experience in the operation of small conventional and membrane water treatment plants. Experience in the operation of SCADA systems, computer-based databases, and material management systems. Experience in the collection of water quality samples and the interpretation of laboratory results.
