Guidance Officer - Allenstown State SchoolCentral Queensland Region, Early Childhood and State Schools DivisionAllenstown State School are seeking applications for a Guidance Officer to join their school community on a full-time temporary basis until 13 December 2024, unless otherwise determined.

Within this role you will collaboratively negotiate, develop and implementprograms for students that have a focus on preventative and early intervention strategies; are responsive to identified personal, social, emotional and educational needs; and aim to foster resilience and personal skills development.The Department of Education are dedicated to building an inclusive and diverse workforce that reflects the community and schools we support by treating everyone with respect and dignity. Allenstown State School has a very long and proud history - providing quality educational experiences since 1877. The history of the school is a tangible thing - we have many pieces of infrastructure that remain from ‘days gone by' including our very impressive three storey A block building and an historic play shed. While the school's origins sit in the 19th century we are very much about educating the children of Allenstown and environs for life, work and leisure within the 21st century.About the RoleGuidance Officers contribute towards, and are accountable for the provision of a comprehensive student support program that is responsive to the identified and changing needs of students. The program will be negotiated with and authorised by a line manager, usually the Principal. Guidance Officers are required to provide this service in collaboration with other school-based personnel and external support providers in a variety of educational contexts, including schools and alternative education programs, culture or team priorities.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Advocate, provide counselling, psychoeducational assessment and individual student support, recommendations and advice to students, teachers and parents concerning educational, behavioural, career development, mental health and family issues.Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and facilitate effective working relationships and partnerships with parents, school personnel and external support agencies in order to provide a comprehensive support, case management and referral service that optimises students' access and engagement in educational programs.Provide a counselling and referral service to assist students in decision making about critical educational, personal, social, emotional and career development, and provide ongoing support during the implementation phase of their decision.Conduct activities such as student observation and psychoeducational assessment in order to determine the nature of student learning difficulties, disability, developmental levels or psychological and emotional status in order to make recommendationsPlease refer to the attached role description for any mandatory requirements for this position.How to ApplyPlease attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should have an understanding of your relevant previous work history); andA 1-pg written statement in response to the attached role description.We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.Salary rate shown is reflective of full-time (1.0 FTE).We are committed to building inclusive cultures in the Queensland public sector that respect and promote human rights
