Senior Accountant or Supervisor

We are a growing Melbourne CBD based public accounting firm looking for either: an experienced Senior Accountant who is ready to step into a Supervisor position in the short term, or an established Supervisor who is already managing jobs and people in business services. The final title and salary will depend on your experience and the level of responsibility you are ready to take on. About the Role You will be a key person for delivering high quality compliance and advisory services on some of our most complex and challenging jobs. You will take ownership of client assignments from planning through to final delivery, work closely with clients and help develop the next generation of accountants in the team. If you join as a Senior Accountant, the role is designed as a clear pathway into Supervisor. You will start to review work, oversee smaller jobs and gradually take on more responsibility for workflow and people. If you join as a Supervisor, you will lead jobs end to end, manage a small team, review work, help with job allocations and be an important point of contact for clients. For the right person, there is a clear progression path to Manager, with increasing responsibility for a client group, team leadership and involvement in practice improvements. This role suits someone who enjoys technical work, wants visible results and is motivated by clear expectations and progression. Key Responsibilities Prepare financial statements and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships and high net worth individuals with complex structures Take ownership of engagements from planning through to completion, including managing timelines and expectations Identify and advise on advanced tax matters such as Division 7A, CGT including small business concessions, trust streaming and loss utilisation Provide practical tax planning strategies for SMEs and investment groups Liaise directly with clients, the ATO and other regulators Review and provide constructive feedback on junior and intermediate accountants’ work, with increasing review responsibility over time Assist with workflow management including job allocation, monitoring progress and helping to resolve bottlenecks Help train and mentor junior team members through on the job guidance and coaching Consistently achieve agreed billable hours, productivity and recovery KPIs Maintain up to date knowledge of tax legislation, rulings and compliance requirements About You CA or CPA qualified Minimum 6 years experience in Australian public practice accounting Strong technical expertise in Australian taxation across multiple entity types and industries Demonstrated ability to produce client ready work with minimal revisions Experience reviewing work of junior or intermediate accountants, or a strong desire to build this skill Confident communicator who enjoys dealing directly with clients Proven track record of meeting performance and billing KPIs Motivated to step into or continue in a Supervisor position and take greater responsibility for people, jobs and client relationships Organised, proactive and comfortable working to deadlines What We Offer Exposure to challenging, technically rewarding work across a diverse client base A clear and supported pathway from Senior Accountant into Supervisor, and from Supervisor into Manager for the right person Opportunity to increase leadership responsibilities, from reviewing work to managing small teams and client groups Supportive, collaborative team environment where your input is listened to Competitive remuneration package aligned with experience and responsibility Ongoing professional development, technical training and CPD support Hybrid work flexibility once you are established in the role If you are an experienced Senior Accountant ready to step up or an established Supervisor looking for a role with a real pathway to Manager, we would like to hear from you.
