The Manager Risk & Compliance is primarily responsible for: Supporting the development, implementation and continuous improvement of risk management and compliance frameworks, policies and procedures, operationalising these and ensuring that they are effective, contemporary and fit for purpose. Ensuring that APRA maintains a demonstrable and up-to-date understanding of compliance posture in relation to key statutory and regulatory obligations, challenging APRA's Divisions on level of compliance with these. Enabling clear visibility and informed decision‑making through reliable and timely reporting of compliance posture across APRA's comprehensive scope of compliance obligations. Supporting APRA's Divisions to effectively manage their risks and embed the desired risk culture. The Manager Risk & Compliance will be responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of a robust compliance framework to ensure that APRA's operations strictly adhere to its statutory obligations, and its policies and procedures. The role involves identifying, assessing and mitigating compliance risks, developing and delivering training to embed a culture of compliance across all staff, and providing expert advice on continuous improvement of governance and control processes to meet APRA's statutory obligations. As a secondary responsibility (where capacity allows), the role will also participate in the provision of timely, relevant and practical risk advice to APRA's Divisions, including quality risk assessments to support decision‑making, Post Incident Reviews and activities to uplift risk awareness. The role will also contribute to the regular reporting to key stakeholders, including the Audit & Risk Committee, Executive Board, and Management Committee. The team The Chief Risk Office is tasked with the enablement and protection of APRA. Its policies and practices are operationalised to provide a holistic view of our risk profile and contribute to the embedding of the desired risk behaviours and culture. Key responsibilities Lead the ongoing review, update and maintenance of APRA's compliance framework, ensuring alignment with statutory requirements and best practice standards. Manage and monitor compliance with APRA's statutory obligations and internal policies and procedures, contributing to activities so Divisions can demonstrate that they meet these. Evaluate and test compliance controls designed to mitigate compliance risks, proposing enhancements where necessary. Engage broadly across APRA to establish an up-to-date and accurate view of key compliance risks and the effectiveness of mitigating actions. Develop and deliver executive reporting on compliance posture periodically and as needed. Continuously monitor relevant external developments and legislative changes to ensure APRA's policies and practices remain aligned with evolving expectations. Provide compliance thought leadership tailored to the diverse roles and remit of each of the supervision and supervision related Divisions. Build capabilities across APRA by actively sharing knowledge, training and mentoring others, collaborating internally and externally to achieve broader APRA or industry outcomes. Contribute to an open culture within the business unit, where divergent views are shared and respected; and maintain an up-to-date awareness of APRA's organisational dynamics and use this effectively in managing internal relationships and engaging stakeholders. About you A demonstrably diverse depth of knowledge and understanding of contemporary compliance frameworks, concepts and practices. Demonstrated expertise and experience in building the necessary relationships and influencing stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to communicate concisely (written and verbal) and within context (materiality) to influence decision‑making at the most senior levels. Ability to scan a breadth of sources to identify and raise emerging trends and identify usage within organisational context, distilling information appropriately for different audiences. Strong personal integrity and an intuitive understanding of what is reasonable and prudent business practice. Ability to establish and maintain sound working relationships with peers, team members and external stakeholders in a professional team environment.
