This is a part‑time (0.4 FTE), term‑time only position. Applicants must have native or bilingual fluency in French. Role Responsibilities Provide language assistance and conduct conversation classes with small groups of students without supervision to reinforce content taught by classroom teachers. Observe, evaluate and communicate students’ performance and development in conversation classes. Produce electronic materials and texts in the target language to be used in class and in assessment (this will include writing texts and recording them). Conduct or assist oral/aural assessment when required. Provide assistance to students preparing for language competitions. Conduct language proficiency testing when required. Work with classroom teachers to maintain their language skills. Specific Duties Planning, preparing and delivering instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences focussing on oral skills. Communicating necessary information regularly to students and colleagues regarding student progress and student needs. Managing student behaviour in conversation groups by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures. Participating in arrangements for preparing students for external language related competitions or examinations. Identifying and selecting different instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs in conversation groups. Assisting teachers with oral/aural work in the classroom. Contributing to the production of language exam papers for non‑conversation classes when requested. Conducting or assisting with oral/aural exams when requested. Reviewing particular examples of students’ work and giving a native speaker’s opinion of the standard of that work. Providing a variety of learning materials and resources for use in speaking activities. Using relevant technology to provide stimulating speaking practice. Providing guidance to language teachers regarding specific language points. Replacing absent language teachers in the classroom where appropriate. Providing feedback and mentoring to teachers, including the modelling of instructional practice. What Can BGS Offer You?
