Construction Estimator

Job Overview We are seeking a reliable and detail-focused Construction Estimator to support our residential small‑build projects – including patios, granny flats, and home renovations. This is a dynamic, hands‑on role that combines estimating with elements of project coordination, supplier management, and basic drafting support. You’ll work closely with the manager and occasionally with external consultants such as architects and surveyors to help with cost planning, quote preparation, and site support. From interpreting plans and preparing costings to coordinating materials and inspecting progress, you’ll play a key role in keeping projects running on time and on budget. Benefits Stable full‑time role Work‑life balance: Local Perth‑based projects – no FIFO or remote work Supportive team environment: Close‑knit crew with direct access to owners and managers Diverse projects: Exposure to patios, granny flats, and home renovations Tools and tech provided: Access to software, templates, and estimating tools Mileage reimbursement or work vehicle (if site visits required) Potential for performance‑based bonuses Task & Responsibilities Visit job sites or review plans to prepare accurate take‑offs and cost estimates Determine quantities and prices for materials Estimate labour costs Identify potential cost risks, changes in material prices and construction costs Interpret and review plans, building regulations, and codes of practice Assist with preparing preliminary sketches, working drawings, and basic specifications Source and compare pricing from suppliers and subcontractors Prepare and submit quotes, variations, and supporting documentation to clients Help negotiate pricing and timelines with clients and trades Communicate clearly with the team and clients on project changes or updates Coordinate basic works programs and scheduling Perform routine computations, measurements, and material take‑offs Assist in inspecting work and materials for compliance with specs and standards Contribute to improving estimating systems and construction workflows Qualification & Experience Previous experience in estimating or a strong trade/construction background Solid understanding of residential construction (e.g., patios, renovations, granny flats) Ability to read and interpret plans and perform quantity take‑offs Familiar with Australian building codes, standards, and local regulations Strong communication and people skills – confident dealing with clients and trades Organised, reliable, and eager to take initiative Comfortable using email, Excel, and basic quoting/project software Bonus Skills (Not Required but a Plus) Experience with CAD/drafting software or plan editing tools Knowledge of project coordination, scheduling, or council approvals Familiarity with surveying equipment, photogrammetry, or site measurement tools About Company We are a locally owned and operated construction business based in Perth, WA, with a strong focus on delivering high‑quality residential projects including patios, granny flats, and home renovations.
