Position Title College and Career Specialist Department Education Compensation DOE/Q Additional Note Benefited, Grant Funded for One Year 11/01/2025 – 07/31/2026 Summary of Duties and Responsibilities The College and Career Specialists will create and implement the college and career readiness program and support the school counselor by meeting with students and parents individually and in groups to assist with preparing middle school students for college and career. The College and Career Specialist will work a maximum of 40 hours per week at a pay rate, which is based on education and experience. Must represent the Department of Education in a manner that reflects the highest of professional standards and promotes the image of the Tribe and its administration at all times. This position is fully grant funded and exists for the one year of the project /funding period. Essential Responsibilities Construct and implement college and career program for students in grades 8 Establish college and readiness outcome measures of success for grades 8 Assist in completing a High School Application for transitioning 8th graders Recruit and follow up with students for special programs i.e. volunteers, various leadership opportunities, and other local or out of area programs Work towards increasing student GPA in core middle school courses Work towards an increase in the number of middle school students scoring proficient or higher on state assessment Increase and monitor participation of youth in summer youth internships and other activities Lead for Career Inventory Skills for all 6th through 8th graders Assist in Organizing College and Career Fair Serve on 8th Grade Graduation planning team Complete and provide data to middle school staff on grades, attendance, behavior etc. In coordination with guidance counselor provide quarterly, semester and year end reports and final transcripts for eighth graders Keep the Director and department staff informed by developing and maintaining a network of contacts to assist in the implementation of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s Curriculum programs Collaborate with the Director of Education and school partners to coordinate student and education data. Provides increased accountability by capturing and analyzing data to track student success Write an official school recommendation for each 8th grader by gathering information from parents, teachers, school records, and students themselves Make informational presentations to parents and community Stay current on issues and trends in college admission, higher education, testing, as well as keeping up‑to‑date about specific colleges Maintain and disseminate information about standardized tests such as SAT, and help to administer and work with the school counselor to arrange for extended time on these tests as warranted Remain aware of the Tribes and community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents and the community to support District goals and program objectives Recommend improvements and/or additions that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Tribes’ college and career readiness efforts Direct the Tribe’s college readiness events. Represent the Tribe and the CDA Tribe Department of Education on selected committees or at selected meetings Develop dual enrollment opportunities for students in collaboration with the University of Idaho Meet with high school admissions representatives from the schools that students plan on attending Engage in continuous learning through professional reflection and active collaboration with colleagues Promote strong relationships with students’ families and care‑givers that engage them in their child’s education and school events Track, assess and report data used to assess student achievement and retention; implement continuous improvement programs and processes, as appropriate Perform other duties as assigned Required minimum qualifications Coursework in education from a regional accredited university or related Educational experience working with Native American students Must support the Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s vision, mission, and core values per CdA Resolution ) Prior to hire must pass, at minimum, an in‑depth background investigation prior to employment according to the following: §25 CFR 12 Part 32, §25 CFR 63 Part 17, and Public Law 101‑647 Ability to create and edit written communication in all forms, resulting in products that are technically precise, accurate and readable Experience with current classroom technology such as Smartboards, document cameras, Interactive Video Technology, etc. Knowledge of Plummer Worley School District and national/state and initiatives Highly skilled in operation of personal computers and associated peripherals, Excel, Windows, MS Office, email, Internet and design applications Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of this position Ability to support all department goals and objectives Valid driver’s license at time of application and during employment Must comply with other Tribal Health policies Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use fingers and hands to type/keyboard and/or handle materials. The employee is required to sit, stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to lift educational equipment and resources.
