Manager - Connections Technical Solutions Join as the Manager – Connections Technical Solutions at Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) . This is a permanent, full‑time role based in any of: Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth or Adelaide. Its purpose is to ensure safe, reliable and affordable energy today and to enable the transition to a net‑zero economy by co‑designing the future of our energy systems, driven by values of character, commitment and connection. Division: System Design Department: Onboarding & Connections Reference number: Engagement type: Permanent About the Division & Role System Design plans for rapid changes in energy technology. Planners must ensure new projects meet technical standards and perform reliably across the network as new generation and load technologies emerge. This role tackles technical, analytical and operational challenges, ideal for those wanting to make a real impact. About the Team You Will Lead You will lead a high-performing group of engineers specialising in system modelling, simulation techniques, electromagnetic transient (EMT) analysis and power system performance. Key projects include : Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) with multiple new connections occurring simultaneously Grid‑forming battery installations setting global benchmarks Novel assessment methods for offshore wind, advanced data centres and large‑scale storage Complex modelling investigations and cutting‑edge wide‑area EMT studies Technical standards and compliance shaping how new technology connects to the grid About You – Responsibilities Provide clear technical direction and ensure work is prioritised and delivered with excellence Build strong relationships across AEMO and with external stakeholders Represent AEMO as a trusted voice within industry working groups and technical forums Foster a culture of curiosity, collaboration and fun Coach, mentor and develop engineering talent Encourage new approaches and lead the team through ambiguity and rapid change To Succeed, You’ll Bring Strong communication skills, able to engage both technical experts and industry leaders An enquiring mind and willingness to challenge assumptions A commitment to follow‑through and delivery The ability to build confidence in others and motivate a high-performance culture Benefits Competitive salary (A$240,000 – A$280,000) Career growth within a leading energy organisation Inclusive and diverse work environment Opportunities to influence national energy policy and technology standards About Our Process We welcome people of all backgrounds, including those with disabilities, neurodivergence and Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander heritage.
