About the Role The Engineering & Maintenance Team Leader is directly responsible for the mechanical & electrical teams to provide reliable and efficient maintenance support for the Virginia site on a multi‑shift basis, across manufacturing and site services. This is achieved through a combination of preventive and reactive maintenance as well as identification and implementation of process/equipment improvement activities. Close coordination with the various departments (Engineering, Production, QA, HSE, Planning etc.) is integral to this role. With strong leadership, technical skills, business aptitude and a commercial mindset, the ideal candidate will also stay up to date with the latest technology developments and propose any such developments to the business. Main Responsibilities Prepare annual & short‑term maintenance plans in alignment with compliance rules (budget, QA, HSE) Coordinate and gate‑keep all planned work orders Understand the labour needs including skills to perform planned work orders Define BOM and tools required (including safety instructions) Identify tasks to be performed in‑house and those to be subcontracted Estimate the total cost (labour, materials, charges from contractors/suppliers) for work requests Co‑coordinate closely with the engineering and production departments to ensure the best maintenance plans are in place Coordinate with relevant functions (production, HSE, Planning, QA) for all work orders Obtain required approvals Schedule the job and perform kitting activities (where appropriate) Co‑coordinate with the Engineering and Maintenance Assistant to ensure the spare parts warehouse is maintained and spare parts inventory levels are optimised Prepare weekly schedules for the team and prioritise the work orders in alignment with stakeholders Perform daily face‑to‑face meetings with the shift production supervisor Daily shop floor Gemba walks Identify and implement improvements to the plant maintenance program by machine or line Assist with design and manufacture of any new process or equipment improvements Drive lean and autonomous maintenance through programs such as SEED Administer the computerised maintenance programme Ensure engineering documentation and maintenance history is current utilising computer databases and paper systems Set and follow up performance metrics in agreement with relevant stakeholders Ensure planned preventive and predictive maintenance tasks are completed according to the maintenance and production schedules Awareness of the Capex and Opex budgets for the area and adhere to the constraints set within Manage contract labour used in maintenance Contribute to the development of a service‑focused maintenance department, including maintenance of good relationships with other functional areas Ensure adherence to internal and regulatory quality systems Work with the maintenance team to improve engagement within the business and further develop a culture of frequent and open communication, accountability, recognition, feedback and inclusiveness Recruit, develop and coach direct reports for performance Conduct and document regular performance reviews and an annual review as well as regular personal / career development discussions with direct reports, in line with agreed Sanofi Performance Management Process About You Qualifications Engineering Degree (highly desired) Trade qualification (Electrical or Fitter & Turner) Experience Strong engineering aptitude and background in an FMCG, Pharmaceutical or similar manufacturing/production environment Understanding of GMP, quality and OHS requirements & processes Proven people management and leadership experience Skills High level communication skills in both written and verbal Strong organisational and ability to prioritise multiple tasks at once Good customer service mindset Self‑motivated and able to work autonomously, to meet deadlines consistently Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access Why Us At Opella, you will enjoy doing challenging, purposeful work, empowered to develop consumer brands with passion and creativity.
