The ideal candidate will be a recent earth science graduate; however highly motivated individuals who are interested in pursuing studies in this field will be considered. More experienced candidates are also welcome to apply, with remuneration to reflect your experience. The position is a hands on role that offers a variety of day-to-day tasks including both field and office duties. Tasks primarily relate to risk assessment and management of contaminated land, waste management and environmental monitoring. You will also have opportunity to be involved with ecological assessment and planning proposals. While technical skills are important, a willingness to learn, initiative, motivation to establish a career, and strong verbal and written communication abilities are essential. The role is based in Somersby on the NSW Central Coast with regular travel to Sydney, though the opportunity is also available for occasional trips to regional NSW and interstate. On the job training is provided with an experienced industry certified specialist and support for further formal education is also available. (Negotiable) Ideal Candidate Experience : Some experience in environmental monitoring, soil / groundwater assessment or policy interpretation is beneficial. Skills : Self-motivated, problem solver with strong data interpretation, risk assessment, and legislative comprehension abilities. Ability to undertake labour intensive work. Knowledge : Fundamental understanding of relevant legislation (NEPM, POEO Act, CLM Act, EP&A Act, WHS Act) and geological systems, including hydrogeology. Attributes : Professional attitude with the ability to communicate effectively with everyone from the site shed to the boardroom. Ability to work safely and independently on construction sites, on remote sites and a willingness to learn. Availability to work additional hours when required. You will be required to drive a company vehicle so a license with good driving record is essential Responsibilities Field sampling of soil, soil gas and groundwater for environmental assessment. Undertake remediation and validation of contaminated sites. Waste and resource recovery assessment. Environmental compliance monitoring of dust, vibration, noise, groundwater.
