About the Opportunity
If you are seeking an opportunity to step into a senior leadership role and drive law reform in a dynamic agency, Consumer & Business Services (CBS) is currently seeking applications for its LE5 Assistant Director, Regulatory Service role. This is an exceptional opportunity for someone with extensive legal, policy or law reform experience to lead the regulatory services branch and deliver lasting positive outcomes for the state.
The Assistant Director, Regulatory Services holds responsibility for the strategic operational outcomes of the Regulatory Services Branch of CBS. A significant part of the role involves providing high-quality advice to the Minister for Consumer and Business Affairs and the Commissioner of CBS.
The role also entails leading a high-performing team responsible for delivering on policy and law reform issues, engaging effectively with key stakeholders and attending Parliamentary sittings during the passage of Bills. Applicants require a recognised degree qualification in Law and to be admitted or eligible for admission as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide expert advice to Ministers, CBS Executives, government agencies and stakeholder representatives on the development, operational policy impact and implementation of legislative reform.
- Provide legal advice on policy, law reform and associated matters in relation to the legislation administered by CBS, including highly complex and sensitive matters.
- Instruct Parliamentary Counsel and provide briefings and advice during the passage of Bills through parliament.
- Represent the commissioner on National and State representative bodies, committees and other organisations relevant to CBS.
- Lead the development and implementation of workforce management plans to ensure staff are skilled, motivated, retained and performance managed.
- Provide leadership, oversight and guidance to management and staff.
- Responsible for allocated budget and exercising relevant delegations.
- Establish and maintain high level government, business and community partnerships.
We want to hear from you if you have:
- Recognised degree qualification in law, with admission or eligibility for admission as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia.
- Proven ability to determine priorities, cope effectively with high volumes of work and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience operating under very broad direction and exercising significant levels of independent judgement and delegated authority in resolving complex problems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal or technical concepts in business terms, establish rapport and persuade others.
- Proven ability for strategic, analytical and innovative thought and action, and the ability to think laterally when analysing and identifying business solutions.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills with the ability to manage a team of staff, determine priorities, set goals and achieve agreed outcomes.
- Expert knowledge and understanding of the role of government in regulating and the impact of regulation on the commercial sector.
About the Business
The Attorney-General's Department (AGD) provides a range of legal, regulatory and other services for the government and people of South Australia. Employing around 1500 staff, AGD promotes justice by protecting people's rights, holding people to account according to the law, improving safety and contributing to an efficient and fair justice system.
Consumer and Business Services (CBS) is a division of the Attorney-General's Department and is responsible for protecting consumers, supporting and regulating businesses and recording significant life events for South Australians. CBS is customer focused and flexible in its activities, providing accessible information and services.
Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory.
