LabWest is an independent minerals analysis facility established in 2008 in Western Australia by a small group of investors. LabWest's leadership team have more than 80 years of experience in minerals analysis, having worked for major mining companies and commercial laboratories. LabWest has built a global reputation in the mineral processing industry with a world-class facility and technology located in Malaga, Western Australia. LabWest specialises in geochemical analysis and uses clean environments and careful sample handling practices to provide contamination-free preparation and low-detection limit elemental determinations.
Now part of the global Phenna Group, LabWest is part of a network of Minerals laboratories within Western Australia servicing the mining industry of Australia and beyond.
The Opportunity:
LabWest is actively seeking an experienced Laboratory Operations Manager to join our dynamic business to manage our routine mineral processing laboratory department.
As the Laboratory Operations manager, you will be responsible for the daily operation of the routine Minerals Processing Laboratory. You will play a crucial role in the company’s success and work alongside leading market experts.
A rare opportunity to be part of the management team in a commercial laboratory operation fully based in the Perth Metropolitan area.
Reporting to the General Manager you will be responsible for:
- Managing day to day operations in the routine production laboratory, sample receivals, sample preparation, warehousing and stores departments
- Scheduling of jobs to be processed through sorting and the production laboratory, in conjunction with customer needs and business priorities.
- Continuous improvement of the laboratory’s throughput capability and turnaround times
- Works to continually improve technical capability within the business.
- In conjunction with the Principal Scientist and the Laboratory Analysis Manager, support the commercialisation of new tests, managing the scalability of the tests to meet customer and business needs.
About You
To be successful in the role, you should be able to demonstrate the following attributes.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Tertiary qualifications in Science or equivalent (Chemistry, Geochemistry or science related field)
- Demonstrated experience managing high throughput Laboratory production/commercial laboratory environment.
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership role, managing diverse teams.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure and achieve strict deadlines.
- Geochemistry laboratory experience would be highly regarded.
