The Experimental Soft Matter Physics group of Prof. Roberto Cerbino in the Computational and Soft Matter Physics Subunit is seeking to fill a position for a Laboratory manager / Head of Laboratory Operations.

**Duration of employment**: 1 year/s

**Extent of Employment**: 40 hours/week

Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: -54 VwGr. IIIb with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

We are looking for someone with a long-term engagement to our Faculty subunit. The advertised position is permanent, with a fixed-term contract for the first year. On mutual agreement, it will be transferred to a permanent position after this period.

In this capacity, you will work in close collaboration with the group leader to oversee and ensure the smooth operation of our soft matter laboratories. By interacting with the group leader, the administration, the other lab users and other departments and institutions, your responsibilities will include:

- supporting the group leader in providing guidance and supervision in all laboratory matters and for all the scientific staff operating in the laboratory, including guests;
- monitoring the operation and maintenance of all the equipment located in the laboratories, by ensuring periodic controls and needed repairs;
- coordinating, organizing and handling the procurement of laboratory consumables and supplies, by maintaining updated inventories and ensuring appropriate and timely stocking;
- advising the group members on the selection of purchases, by performing a market analysis when needed;
- coordinating and monitoring the daily laboratory routine, including employee protection and safety, quality assurance and the safe acquisition, management, storage of scientific data;
- writing and regularly updating scientific and technical documentation and lab records/inventories by using Word, Excel, LaTeX (additional tools are a plus);
- building / improving / optimizing experimental setups / methods / techniques / protocols;
- managing and / or supporting the interpretation / presentation of results of experiments / measurements / analyses, also by writing own code using Matlab/Mathematica (additional tools are a plus);
- managing and / or supporting the management of contacts with relevant companies / suppliers;
- supporting project management and reporting.
