Intern - Programme Support and Administration

The internship is located in the Alternative/Sustainable Livelihood Global Coordination Team (SLT), Drugs Laboratory and Scientific Services Branch (DLSSB), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna (Austria). This internship position is for a period of six months starting as soon as possible. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer in the Alternative Development and Sustainable Livelihoods Global Coordination.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
**Responsibilities**:
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties will focus on supporting the implementation of the UNODC Global Partnership on Alternative Development and Sustainable Livelihoods, and may include, but are not limited to:
- Contribute to technical assistance and capacity-building activities of the Global Coordination Team.
- Prepare documents relevant to the work of the Unit, such as discussion papers and briefing notes, background materials and speech-writing
- Assistance in preparation of reports and workplans
- Assistance in preparation and during conferences and workshops
- Attending and taking notes at meetings and workshops
- Assistance in the preparation of web-presentations
- Assistance in the production of engaging material for the cooperative social media and institutional channels
- Contribute to increased exchange with partner organizations in the fields of alternative development and sustainable livelihoods

Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent)
or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation (OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS HAS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION)
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
Keen demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter is required.
Relevant work experience in administration, finance, and programme support is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
The Cover Note must include:
- Name of university and title of degree you are currently pursuing
- Graduation date (when you expect to graduate from the programme)
- A listing of IT skills and programmes that you are proficient in.
- An explanation of your interest in the work of UNODC and specifically the area of alternative development and sustainable livelihoods.
- Dates and duration of availability for internship.
