Master Thesis „Experimental investigation of frost formation and prevention for HVAC/cold storage systems”

- **Frost formation causes significant energy losses** in cold storage systems, which can be prevented through dehumidification using an open absorption liquid desiccant falling film absorber.
- Energy savings resulting from frost prevention contribute to the **decarbonization of cold storage systems**.
- Experimental measurements obtained through this study are used to **validate numerical models** of the liquid desiccant falling film absorber and a heat exchanger model including frost formation.
- The results of this study build the base to design and optimize cold storage systems **improving their energy efficiency and reducing their environmental impact.**
- You will **support the planning and design** of the test facility for the experimental investigation of frost formation and prevention.
- You will contribute to the** set up and commissioning** of the test facility.
- You will **operate **the test facility and conduct experiments according to established protocols.
- You will **analyze **the results of the experiments.
- You will **document **the conducted experiments and the obtained results, including a discussion of the implications of the findings.
- You will **gain knowledge and expertise** in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (**HVAC**) sector, specifically in relation to **cold storage systems**.
- You primarily conduct **research and development** in the team of the **FFG** **CHILI **project.
- You concretely make a **real-life contribution** to the **decarbonization with the aid of experimental investigations**.

- You prepare your results for use in **scientific publications**.

Your qualifications as an
**Ingenious Partner**:

- Ongoing master’s studies in the field of mechanical engineering, process engineering, control engineering, technical physics, or any other similar study programme
- Good knowledge in thermodynamics and fluid dynamics
- Good knowledge in experimental workflows, methods, and measurement
- Strong motivation for obtaining skills in scientific analysis and evaluation
- High level of commitment and ability to work in a team
- Good English language skills in word and writing

**What to expect**:

- **Start date**: as soon as possible - Ideally with January / February 2023
- A salary of EUR 890 gross per month for 20 hours per week. In addition to numerous benefits, you will also be part of our international YOUNG AIT Group. As a research institution, we are very familiar with the supervision and execution of master's theses and look forward to accompanying you in your master's thesis.
