This position is located in the Programme Development and Management Unit (PDMU), Research and Trend Analysis Branch (RAB), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Chief, PDMU.

**Responsibilities**:
Within limits of assigned authority, the Programme Assistant is responsible for the following specific duties:

- Provide assistance in support of planning and implementation activities/processes related to the wildlife and environmental crime research programme.
- Assist in project monitoring; categorize, update, track and analyse data related to programmes/projects, e.g., expenditures, outputs, resources utilized, deviations/revisions, etc.; carry out periodic status reviews, monitor expenditures, prepare budget performance reports, identify issues and initiate requisite follow-up actions.
- Prepare, maintain and update files (electronic and paper) and internal databases; design and generate a variety of periodic and ad hoc reports, statistical tables, graphic content, and other background materials/notes to facilitate inspection and other reviews.
- Research, compile, analyse, summarize, and present basic information/data on specific research programmes/projects.
- Draft correspondence and communications related to all aspects of programme/project administration, including work plan and budgets, revisions and other related issues, as well as prepare unit contributions for a variety of periodic reports.
- Assist with day-to-day administration of contracts between the UN and external contractors for outsourced services, monitor services provided, initiates payments, etc.
- Perform other related administrative duties, as required, such as: operational travel programme; monitoring accounts and payment to vendors and individual contractors for services; organizing and coordinating seminars, conferences and translations.
- Undertake other work-related assignments as may be required.

Education
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job - Specific Qualification
Having passed the Administrative Support Assessment Test [in English] at the United Nations headquarters, Economic Commission for Africa, Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, United Nations Office at Geneva, United Nations Office at Vienna, International criminal tribunal for Rwanda or International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia may be accepted in lieu of the GGST.

Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of experience in programme or project administration, technical cooperation or related area is required.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
