**Master Thesis “Evaluation of grid constraints, bottlenecks and remedial actions in power systems”**

- Historically electrical markets have been agnostic to most grid constraints, especially system security considerations. As the share of renewable-based generation in the modern power system is increasing, this decoupling between markets and grids becomes less valid, and remedial actions are required to guarantee proper grid behaviour, with a massive impact in costs.
- The aim of this master thesis project is to develop and implement a grid model for the Austrian power grid where bottlenecks, congestion and system security could be analyzed.

**ENGAGE**
- The goal of this master thesis is to analyze different solutions towards bottlenecks in the grids
- You will first develop and implement a simplified model of the Austrian grid where congestion can be replicated.
- You will support us in conceiving future scenarios that highlight the weaknesses of existing grid operation techniques.
- You will use specialized tools in order to perform simulations considering novel flow control techniques, including power-electronics-based devices
- Based on your results and analyses you will propose solutions that scale to other countries facing similar issues.

**Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner**:

- Ongoing master’s studies preferably in the fields of energy informatics, electrical engineering, power systems or similar
- Familiarity with power grids and algorithms
- Solid programming skills, especially in Python and MatLab
- Familiarity with PowerFactory DigSILENT would be ideal
- Basic understanding of electrical markets would be a plus
- Team player with a curious and determined attitude
- Working proficiency in English

**What to expect**:
EUR 1.241;
- gross per month for 30 hours/week based on the collective agreement. There will be additional company benefits. You will be part of our international Young AIT network. As a research institution, we are familiar with the supervision and execution of master theses and we are looking forward to supporting you accordingly.
