Master Thesis “Population Synthesis for Agent-Based Traffic Simulation”

- Our research group “Integrated Mobility Systems” develops not only data-driven approaches for modelling, analysis, and decision-making in mobility systems, but it also focuses on investigating the introduction of new mobility concepts, like MaaS, UAM and autonomous vehicles.
- Throughout this master thesis, which is embedded in the SHOW research project focusing on the integration of autonomous vehicles in public transport networks, you help us to facilitate personal independence and mobility and provide input in making travelling greener, smarter and more efficient.
- You will carry out a literature search for current sampling methodologies.
- You will be involved in the improvement of the MATSim model, and in particular the improvement of population synthesis for an agent-based transport simulation by using novel sampling techniques.
- Under the guidance of our multi-disciplinary team, you will develop and test new random sampling techniques for population synthesis.
- You will support us in validating the synthesized population based on the national transport survey data, available census data and MATSim simulation outcomes.
- You train scientific skills and will have the opportunity to discuss experiences with scientific experts.

Your qualifications as an
**Ingenious Partner**:

- Ongoing master’s studies in the field of traffic planning, mathematics/statistics, software engineering or similar fields
- Good knowledge in Python and statistics
- Interested in mobility behavior and forecasting
- High level of commitment and team spirit
- Good knowledge of English word and writing

**What to expect**:

- EUR 828;
- gross per month for 20 hours/week based on the collective agreement, for a period of 6 months.
- Start-date: ideally as soon as possible
