Process Optimization Engineer

ANDRITZ is in search of a skilled Process Optimization Engineer specializing in comprehensive mass and energy balance assessments to bolster our initiatives in the P2X sector. In this capacity, you will be tasked with conceptualizing the overall plant design by integrating essential processes such as electrolysis, carbon capture, and synthesis (for Methanol and Methanation) or electrolysis, air separation, and ammonia synthesis, aimed at advancing our green hydrogen and renewable fuel solutions. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring the integrity of these processes while conducting in-depth analyses to optimize both capital and operational expenditures, particularly under conditions of fluctuating power supply.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct mass and energy balance calculations and develop associated process flow diagrams (PFD).
- Innovate concepts for process modularization and standardization in collaboration with the technology development team.
- Enhance integration with related processes such as power supply, CO2 capture, and e-fuel production, particularly under variable power profiles.
- Create integrated process simulation models alongside CO2 capture and green hydrogen synthesis processes, facilitating analyses for CapEx and OpEx optimization throughout the entire value chain.
- Collaborate closely with project management and other disciplines, including piping, layout, static and rotating equipment, electrical, and automation during the proposal and engineering phases.
- Prepare utility consumption metrics (electricity, water, chemicals, etc.) and gather required media quality specifications in close cooperation with process engineers.
- Collect and provide data on emissions, including effluent, heat, noise, and gas.
- Calculate and size subsystems (e.g., water purification) and components (e.g., hydrogen and oxygen purification, nitrogen supply units, and compression).
- Deliver comprehensive mass and energy balance systems.
- Review piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) throughout the project lifecycle.
- Optimize system solutions by analyzing static and dynamic mass and energy balance results.
- Align and enhance control strategies and maintenance philosophies.
- Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA studies.
- Prepare and manage lists of equipment and components.
- Coordinate with all relevant disciplines and internal and external project stakeholders.
- Clarify, discuss, and present technical solutions to customers.
- Support the preparation of function descriptions.
- Contribute to the commissioning, start-up, and optimization teams.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in chemical process engineering, complemented by proven numerical simulation skills.
- A minimum of three years of experience in a lead process engineering role within EPC projects in the (petro-)chemical sector.
- Familiarity with process simulation software.
- Ability to consult with clients and regulatory bodies regarding technical design requirements.
- Capable of articulating design solutions effectively.
- Strong communication, analytical, and planning abilities.
- Customer-focused and solution-oriented with a proactive approach.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in another European language is advantageous.
- Willingness to travel, averaging at least three days per month.

In Austria, we are legally required to announce a minimum gross monthly salary of € ,78 for this position. Depending on qualifications and professional experience, we offer a competitive salary.
