About the role: Assistant Border Force officers (ABFOs) are employed with the ABF at the APS2 classification.
They undertake a range of general administrative and operational support duties such as processing passengers through the international airport/seaports, responding to counter enquiries, generating seizure notices and dealing with client and stakeholder enquiries.
In NSW, ABFOs often work in public facing roles at Sydney International Airport to assist frontline operational teams to meet peaks associated with the movement of people and goods across the border.
In addition, there are a small number of roles available at our Container Examination Facility and Detained Goods warehouse (Port Botany), the International Mail Centre (Clyde), with our Removals team at Villawood, and our Aviation Goods, Cargo Clearance and Cargo Systems Support teams in the airport precinct.
Work is often undertaken outside of standard business hours.
We have shift and non-shift opportunities available through the process.
Please note: It is expected that further WSI vacancies will arise across the ABF in NSW during the validity of the merit pool (18 months from time of advertising).

Our ideal candidate We are looking for individuals who are committed to upholding the APS Values, Code of Conduct and Employment Principles when performing the duties of an ABFO.
You must possess good judgement and attention to details to ensure that tasks are completed within set timeframes and compliant with departmental policies.
At this level, officers must be flexible and adaptable during high tempo situations, whilst also building positive working relationships with your team and external stakeholders.
An APS2 ABFO position within East Command provides a unique opportunity for you to develop operational and administrative skills to confidently contribute to the overall objective of the department.

The successful candidate must have the ability to acquire and maintain a minimum Baseline (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).

You will have a virtual Microsoft Teams session for your yarning session and interview with ABF representatives.
During this stage, you'll meet the panel of representatives, including a First Nations officer.
