Ward 1 East consists of nine adult acute mental health beds, co-located with eight addiction medicine detox beds.
These beds support consumers that benefit from a smaller acute, but low dependency therapeutic environment.
The role of the Clinical Nurse Unit Manager (CNM) is to work closely with the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) and act in their role when required.
As part of the ward leadership team, the CNM is a valued and collaborative member of the multidisciplinary health care team at Eastern Health and is accountable for coordinating and delivering safe and comprehensive patient centred care while working competently within their scope of practice and in alignment with the Eastern Health and Nursing and Midwifery Board Practice Standards.
About the role Located at Box Hill Hospital, Ward 1 East is a co-located Mental Health and Addiction Medicine Detox Unit.
The CNM role at 1 East involves: Providing advanced clinical leadership in mental health and addiction nursing, overseeing patient care, and ensuring high practice standards.
Mentoring and supervising the nursing team, managing staffing, and promoting professional development.
Monitoring and evaluating program outcomes and developing and managing changes as appropriate.
Emphasising quality assurance by implementing best practices, conducting audits, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and legislation.
Managing patient safety, responding to clinical emergencies, and maintaining accurate medical records.
Ethical conduct, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and fostering effective communication with patients and their families are key responsibilities.
Overseeing administrative tasks, discharge planning, rostering and continuous improvement efforts.
Undertaking complex 'hands-on' clinical practice, making authoritative clinical judgments independently where required, within their scope of practice.
Liaising and negotiating with significant stakeholders, including community mental health & AOD teams.

About you To be successful in the role you will: Hold current registration with AHPRA Have completed a post-graduate diploma in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing, a specialist undergraduate Mental Health Nursing program, or a specialist post-basic course leading to Division 3 Nurse registration.
Have at least 5 years of work experience where you have developed expert knowledge in RPN practices and procedures.
Be professionally accountable for nursing decisions and will manage units or programs independently as well as in liaison with the Nurse Unit Manager.
Possess excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills Have an empathetic and personable demeanour Demonstrate a strong commitment to high quality care Be able to demonstrate the ability and experience to confidently lead a diverse team Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice).
Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
