About the role
The Work and Development Permit Scheme is a partnership between the Department of Justice, Legal Aid WA, and the Aboriginal Legal Service of WA.
The Legal Aid WA Work and Development Permit Service contributes to the Scheme by assisting people struggling to pay their court fines and connecting them with services (sponsors) that provide approved programs or activities under the Scheme.
Clients attending these approved programs or activities may be eligible to credit their engagement hours against their outstanding court fines.
About you
Legal Aid WA has a Project Officer position in the Work and Development Permit Service team, available to 30 June 2026.
You will work closely with our team to identify opportunities to engage with services providing activities that fit within the Work and Development Permit Scheme objectives.
There is a strong stakeholder engagement component to the role as you will support new and existing sponsors to provide Work and Development Permits to clients, and work closely with our legal team to facilitate the referral of clients to sponsors delivering Work and Development Permit Scheme approved services.
In addition to the above duties, you will contribute to the drafting and publication of the Work and Development Permit Service newsletter.
You will also have substantial experience cultivating strong working relationships, as well as bringing a range of analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills to the role.
An ability to coordinate multiple tasks within agreed priorities and timeframes is important in this role.
If you have substantial community engagement and capacity building experience, have sound communication skills, are a strong team player and have a passion for helping vulnerable clients, then this position is for you.
