About the role The Faculty of Science and Engineering at Curtin University is expanding its Girls in STEM program and we are looking for a passionate STEM Outreach Officer to help inspire the next generation of STEM superstars. This role focuses on connecting and empowering girls in their early high school years, encouraging exploration of study and career pathways in STEM, particularly engineering. Responsibilities Assist delivery of the Girls in STEM program, including preparing resources and facilitating STEM workshops focused on creativity and problem‑solving. Mentor students, advocate for gender equity in STEM and inspire future STEM superstars. Promote STEM pathways for school‑aged students, particularly girls, through outreach initiatives. Assist the Program Coordinator on various projects including communications, monitoring program effectiveness and developments. Selection Criteria – Essential Completion of a relevant STEM or education‑related diploma qualification with relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education training. A genuine passion for STEM and a desire to inspire the next generation of STEM students. A strong commitment to gender equity and creating equal opportunities for all students in STEM. Experience engaging high school students in hands‑on learning, with skills in workshop development, event management and creating an inclusive learning environment. Strong communication skills, including the ability to present effectively to diverse audiences and write clear, concise documentation on STEM topics. Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines. Proven ability to work collaboratively in teams and manage school students during activities, adapting your approach to meet them where they are. Selection Criteria – Desirable Proven experience and knowledge of the school education environment. Previous experience in delivering STEM engagement activities with female students. Role Requirements Fixed‑term contract; current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role. Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, background, integrity and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction. Up‑to‑date Working with Children Check required. Occasional travel to regional and rural areas to deliver workshops (transportation provided). Ability to work outside of regular office hours as needed to support workshops and special events.
