Learn more about our network: Employment Type : Temporary Part Time Position Classification : Staff Specialist Hours Per Week : 24 Requisition ID : REQ Applications are via eCredential The Endocrinology Department at The Sydney Children's Hospital at Westmead are seeking a temporary 0.6 FTE (24 hours per week) Staff Specialist to join their team from 2 February 2026 through to 31 January 2027. The Institute of Endocrinology & Diabetes is a large department caring for children with diabetes, complex endocrine and growth disorders and metabolic bone disease. The position of Staff Specialist, Endocrinology & Diabetes, will ensure that: Clinical Services are focussed on delivering excellent clinical care to children and supporting their families. Research and teaching is undertaken and focussed on the area of Endocrinology & Diabetes. RESPONSIBILITIES Participate in the clinical management of and provide a consultative service for children and adolescents with Endocrinology & Diabetes disorders. Provide relevant diagnostic services for children with Endocrinology & Diabetes disorders. Ensure adherence to the Hospital’s policy on Ethics of Consultation. Supervise the clinical management of patients admitted under the Staff Specialist’s care. Ensure that a management plan is documented and that there is timely completion of records on discharge. Monitor and respond to existing and evolving Health care needs. Continue to develop and promote internationally renowned services and communicate through partnerships a range of child health information to parents, carers and other professionals. Continually review the care processes and streamline services to optimise the quality of care and clinical standards. Encourage and participate in evidence-based clinical decision-making. Tailor services to meet the needs of children and families from diverse social, cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Participate in approved TeleHealth and the Greater Western Sydney Child Health Network services. Balance hospital-based, TeleHealth and Greater West Network services against demand, giving priority to meeting the needs of children with serious and complex illness who are unable to be provided for by other health care services. Promote preventative health measures and collaborate with other agencies in reviewing the health needs of children and their families. Emphasise an interdisciplinary approach to care across the spectrum of child health and give priority to projects that have outcomes with high clinical significance and relevance. Investigate complaints and promptly report the results of such investigations. RESEARCH Responsible to produce high quality research commensurate with the proportion of working hours dedicated to research and in accordance with the Hospital’s Protected Research Time Policy. Participate in evaluations using external, explicit criteria (see listed below) and participate in performance reviews conducted in accordance with the Research Activity Review policy. Contribute and participate in research. Initiates own scholarly activities and promote the scholarly activities of others. Contributes to the publication of 1-2 papers per year. Presents research results at national or international meetings/conferences. QUALIFICATIONS Eligible for Medical Registration in NSW. FRACP and/or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to the principles involved with the care of children and adolescents, as well as suitable training and experience in the management of Diabetes and Endocrine disorders and related conditions. Demonstrated commitment to and achievements in research and teaching. Demonstrated commitment to multi-disciplinary teamwork and working collaboratively. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement in health care. Excellent communication skills. Willingness to take part in non-clinical activities, including administration.
