Our training is delivered to students and apprentices on‑site, online, in the workplace, or on‑campus to give people the skills they need to enrich their communities, support their industries, and strengthen their local economies. Your Opportunity Business Development Officers are employed in various areas throughout the region. The position provides high‑quality Business Development services to a range of stakeholders including individuals, organisations, industry associations, groups, and local, state and federal government departments. As the Business Development Officer, you will initiate and implement business strategies to enhance business performance and growth, increase the region’s market share and revenue in key markets, and coordinate and market a range of commercial training programs to promote the region as a quality provider in education, training and consultancy services. This position reports to the Senior Business Development Officer. It is a permanent, full‑time opportunity based primarily at Townsville, with possible work at other TAFE Queensland campuses. Key Responsibilities Actively research using face‑to‑face appointments and other strategies to identify client needs and industry trends; develop and implement strategies to pursue new commercial opportunities and increase sales within local, regional and national markets. Coordinate the development of new commercial business and act as a reference point for these clients within other industries. Develop a business development plan focused on TAFE innovative strategies. Research education and training trends, monitor competitor products, services, price and promotional techniques; actively pursue commercial revenue generation by implementing effective client management systems and conducting ongoing product and pricing analysis to sustain a competitive edge. Conduct Training Needs Analysis and work with portfolio staff to formulate proposals, tenders, project management plans and quotations, ensuring compliance with legislative and government policy requirements while meeting client training needs. Present proposals, tenders, project management plans and quotations to commercial clients, promoting region products through persuasive arguments. Report against the strategic plan objective “Sustaining our future” to ensure achievement of targets and profitability. Maintain an understanding of the commercial aspects of TAFE, including financial performance and external impacts. Actively engage with industry, business and the community. Contribute to the achievement of TAFE Queensland’s quality policies by encouraging an environment where high‑quality work is achieved and supported through quality system documentation. How You Will Be Assessed Demonstrated ability in research, development and presentation of proposals, tenders and financial quotations in an educational environment to commercial clients using a persuasive manner. Demonstrated ability in sales and key account management, evidenced by a record of achievement in meeting or exceeding sales targets and managing business, industry, government representations and students. High level analytical, organisational and problem‑solving skills with the ability to conceptualise and develop innovative strategies in training program development. High level written communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills demonstrated through the preparation of proposals, tendering and contract documentation. Displays flexibility, responsiveness and initiative, thriving within a dynamic, challenging and changing environment.
