Senior Tax Accountant

The Organisation: This is an incredible opportunity to support a large government department that directly impacts the lives of all Queenslanders. You will be able to leverage your tax knowledge to provide high-level advisory tax support while also assisting with some transactional tax work. You will be interfacing with key organisational stakeholders at different levels. You will be well remunerated, with flexibility, an ability to work from home once you have settled in and hours that are not excessive. This three-month role has come about to provide interim support while the Tax Manager moves into an interim role. There is a possibility of extension. Your Responsibilities: Given the contract nature of the role, our client is happy to consider candidates with different levels of tax experience who can undertake an A05 - A07 role. The core responsibilities will include: Manage, coordinate and improve Goods and Services Tax (GST) and general tax compliance Oversee activities and developments in GST, superannuation, Pay As You Go (PAYG) withholding and other tax policy and practices Develop and maintain appropriate policies, procedures, guidelines and systems to improve tax compliance Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in tax legislation Liaise, consult and negotiate with key stakeholders on the legislative interpretation of tax areas Your Profile: To be considered for this position, you will need extensive experience working in a Tax Accountant capacity for a government department or large commercial organisation . Alternatively, you will be coming from a strong Big 4 tax background with a strong focus on tax, working with large, complex clients. In addition to strong technical tax expertise, ideally, you should be comfortable providing advisory support to stakeholders. Unfortunately, experience with individual tax returns will not be sufficient for the tasks of this role.
