The Sports and Arts Centre boasts a full-size competition court and performing arts space, providing outstanding opportunities for student learning and engagement. Our recent capital works program was completed, delivering 12 additional classrooms and specialist learning areas. The school now has a permanent capacity for 850 students, with relocatable classrooms currently supporting enrolments beyond this. TEACHING AND LEARNING At Gaayip-Yagila Primary School, our teaching and learning model is grounded in explicit instruction, supported by the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM 2.0) and high-impact teaching strategies. We deliver a structured, evidence-based approach that ensures clarity, consistency, and strong student engagement. In Mathematics, we have embedded explicit teaching to strengthen student learning outcomes, while in Reading, we implement Little Learners Love Literacy (LLLL) in the early years and build comprehension and critical thinking skills in Years 3-6. Our school is achieving strong academic growth, with six learning areas now at or above state level. Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) data also reflects high levels of student engagement, safety, and connectedness. Selection Criteria Demonstrated high-level ability to perform, implement and coordinate the daily organisational and administrative procedures that support the efficient operation of Gaayip-Yagila Primary School. Demonstrated ability to work independently, flexibly and collaboratively as part of a team to ensure the continuous and efficient operation of the school environment, and to work proactively and creatively to improve work systems and processes. Demonstrated high-level written and verbal communication skills and well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate effectively and sensitively with staff, students, parents, external providers and members of the wider school community. Well-developed organisational and planning skills, including the ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines, establish priorities and implement procedures and guidelines relating to the work area. Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of information and communication technologies to support school operations and compliance, including systems such as OHS, AIMS, and timetabling programs. A demonstrated commitment to professional learning, continuous improvement and the ongoing development of knowledge and skills relevant to the role. Role No attendance requirement for this position. The Operations, OHS and Policy Education Support Officer provides high-level administrative and operational support to ensure the effective, safe and compliant functioning of Gaayip-Yagila Primary School. The role is responsible for coordinating and implementing key school systems including occupational health and safety, facilities management, compliance reporting, and policy documentation, as well as supporting the efficient day-to-day operations of the school. Working collaboratively with the Principal, Business Manager, staff and external providers, the position ensures that organisational, safety and policy processes are well-managed, compliant, and aligned with Department of Education requirements. The successful applicant will demonstrate initiative, attention to detail, and the capacity to work flexibly and proactively within a dynamic school environment, contributing to a positive, safe and effective learning community. Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions. Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations. Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school. Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers. Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives. An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher. Responsibilities The Operations, OHS and Policy Education Support Officer performs the following duties: Operations and Administration Provide administrative support and maintain daily operational systems, schedules, and school procedures to support the effective running of school programs. Provide administrative support for whole-school functions, including timetabling, excursions, and events, ensuring adherence to DE policies and school procedures. Liaise with staff, contractors, and service providers to support maintenance, facilities, and resource management processes. Assist in the management and monitoring of school assets and equipment through systems such as CASES21, AIMS, and related registers. Support the allocation of replacement teachers to cover classes of staff absent due to illness, camps, excursions, incursions, yard duty changes, organisation of any other covers for sporting events, special timetables, supervision rosters, rooms changes, assemblies. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Support the Coordination of OHS processes and compliance, including maintenance of OHS risk registers, incident reporting, contractor inductions, and emergency management documentation. Support the Principal and leadership team in ensuring the school meets DE OHS requirements, including annual OHS audits, training records, and risk assessments. Liaise with staff, contractors, and visitors to ensure safe work practices are understood and followed across the school site. Contribute to the review and updating of OHS procedures and emergency management plans. Policy and Compliance Maintain and update school policies and procedures in line with DET requirements, legislative obligations, and school council approval processes. Ensure compliance documentation is current, accessible, and communicated to staff as required. Support school improvement priorities through accurate documentation, data entry, and reporting related to policy, compliance, and operational systems. General Undertake other duties as directed by the Principal consistent with the scope and classification of the position. Manage the work practices and priorities of support staff in a school/s. Manage the maintenance of confidentiality in respect to all school records and communication systems.
