SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.The Domestic Violence Social Worker aims to promote, support and facilitate the safety, wellbeing and recovery of women and their children affected by domestic violence and trauma.The Domestic Violence Social Worker undertakes complex risk assessments, provides trauma informed and domestic violence informed individual counselling/therapy, safety/escape planning, evidence based individual and family counselling/therapy in relation to domestic violence and trauma, safety planning, group work and advocacy for women and their children affected by domestic violence. The Domestic Violence Social Worker also works in collaboration with other Government and Non-Government organisations to ensure best evidence based trauma informed and domestic violence informed service delivery and outcomes for women and their children affected by domestic violence and trauma.The Domestic Violence Social Worker is recognised as holding specialist knowledge in relation to domestic violence, trauma and child protection. As many of the women and children who are referred to the Service are at significant risk of being harmed, the use of independent professional judgement and high level practice skills are required in this position. All interventions are informed by trauma informed practice principles: safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration and empowerment. Reflective practice underpins the work of the Domestic Violence Social Worker who is actively accountable in all interactions with clients, colleagues and other services.The Domestic Violence Social Worker provides training and education to other professionals including health workers, government and non-government organisations, and universities.The Domestic Violence Social Worker actively collaborates with other agencies through participation in committees, forums, case conferences and provision of training and consultation to promote and support awareness of the serious health impacts of domestic violence and the social impact to the community, e.g. the St George and Sutherland Domestic Violence Committees.The Domestic Violence Social Worker can also supervise other Social Workers in collaboration/ as requested by the Team Leader as well as Social Work students (Undergraduate and Masters) requesting to undertake their fieldwork placement with the St George and Sutherland DV Service. Selection Criteria Must hold a bachelor’s degree in social work and eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), or other qualification deemed equivalent. Demonstrated clinical experience and understanding of domestic violence, trauma and risks including the ability to articulate a structural analysis of domestic violence. Demonstrated high level experience and skills in assessment and provision of therapeutic interventions including counselling and group work for women and their children who have experienced domestic violence and trauma including the ability to articulate trauma informed evidence based care and practice. Demonstrated high level experience and skills in the assessment of and response to child protection issues, including advocacy for children’s best interests. Knowledge of the NSW Ministry of Health Domestic Violence Policy and Procedures for Identifying and Responding to Domestic Violence. Experience in the development and delivery of group work professional education, training and community development. Experience in project coordination including planning, development, implementation and evaluation. Well‑developed time management skills with excellent written and verbal communication, including report writing skills. Need more information?
