Role Overview Reporting to senior technology and digital executives, this position leads the digital technology function across websites, applications and supporting systems. The role demands a leader who can blend solution architecture, hands on technical involvement, and strong business partnering. Day to day you will guide architectural decisions, review code level detail when required, and ensure that integrations within a middleware led environment are stable and scalable. Weekly rhythms include shaping technical proposals, engaging commercial teams to align technology with business outcomes, supporting releases, and translating complex architecture into clear business language. Monthly outputs include future state design, data driven insights, and partnering with leaders across ANZ to influence digital strategy. This position carries significant influence across major digital programs including a multi site and multi app re platform using modern cloud hosted solutions. You will uplift loyalty, omnichannel and mobile customer experiences by designing architecture that is sound, future ready and commercially aligned. You will be expected to provide technical thought leadership, contribute to planning conversations, and act as the primary advisor on how digital systems, integrations and platforms should evolve. You will also be responsible for establishing new support and engineering models as functions transition away from overseas teams. You will champion research, structured investigation and evidence based analysis when solving complex digital challenges. Your ability to work deeply with data, experiment with modern tooling and explore AI driven efficiencies will support the next wave of digital innovation. Responsibilities Shape and own the digital solution architecture across applications, websites and integration layers Lead architectural decision making and ensure that all systems align to a middleware first technology approach Review and guide code level work when required to validate integrations, troubleshoot issues and steer solution improvements Provide hands on technical leadership across digital software, cloud hosted environments and API driven applications Partner closely with commercial, product and delivery teams to provide thought leadership and align technology choices with business priorities Establish and refine support processes, ensuring a consistent technical operating model as teams transition from overseas capability Drive structured research, problem solving and collaborative technical investigation across engineering and product functions Leverage data and modern tooling to uplift reporting, insights and platform performance Oversee vendors, architectural governance, and the end to end stability of digital systems Inspire a technically strong team and cultivate a growth oriented engineering culture Candidate Profile You are a digital technology leader with deep capability across solution architecture, hands on software understanding and integration design. You understand how to operate in a middleware led environment, have strong experience with API centric systems, and can step into code level discussions when required. You communicate technical concepts with clarity, shaping decisions through a combination of commercial awareness and architectural credibility. You have previously led major digital programs and have a strong track record of stabilising BAU operations while driving large scale delivery. Your leadership style is collaborative, grounded and commercially intelligent. You influence through curiosity, structured thinking and evidence based reasoning. You work effectively with commercial, product and non technical stakeholders, providing thought leadership and guiding them toward practical, well considered solutions. You have experience researching emerging technologies, exploring new patterns, and solving problems alongside your team. Familiarity with Shopify Plus, Algolia, OneStock, AWS, Cognito, or similar ecosystems will be valued, as will experience leveraging data, modern tooling and AI to enhance digital capability. You bring a mature blend of technical depth, architectural breadth and people leadership. You understand how to guide engineers, refine integration patterns, and align architecture to the goals of a high growth retail environment. You make decisions that are technically sound, commercially sensible and grounded in a strong problem solving methodology. Your ability to influence, partner and communicate across all levels of the business will be central to your success.
