Senior Business Development Manager - Projects (Freight Forwarding) A stable and growing Australian owned International Freight Forwarder and Logistics Services Provider is seeking an experienced senior executive (Business Manager / BDM) to grow the renewable energy projects division, focusing specifically on utility-scale solar, renewable energy infrastructure, battery energy storage systems (BESS), Transformers and Power Generation projects across the Australian market. This newly created role will be instrumental in establishing the company as the logistics partner of choice for Australia's rapidly expanding renewable energy and power distribution sectors. Role can be based out of one of the national offices (NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, WA). Key Responsibilities: Business Development & Strategy Develop and execute comprehensive business strategy for renewable energy project logistics across Australia Identify, evaluate, and pursue new business opportunities across Renewable Energy and Power Projects Build and maintain strategic relationships with renewable energy developers, EPCs, utilities, and offshore OEM's Lead market analysis and competitive positioning to identify growth opportunities and market trends Drive Procurement, Pricing and Operations Development Create and improve company’s end-to-end logistics solution for large-scale renewable energy projects (5-200 MW+ solar farms, BESS, Transformers, New Power installations) Manage complex multimodal transport requirements including heavy lift, oversized cargo, and specialized equipment handling Coordinate logistics for solar panels, inverters, transformers, wind turbine components, and battery storage systems Ensure compliance with Australian transport regulations, port requirements, port logistics, and project specifications Develop specialized handling procedures for sensitive renewable energy equipment Commercial Excellence Lead commercial procurement negotiations for project contracts and framework agreements Develop competitive pricing strategies for renewable energy logistics services Create innovative logistics solutions that reduce project timelines and costs Drive revenue growth targets and margin optimization Industry Engagement & Thought Leadership Represent the company at renewable energy industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events Contribute to industry publications and speak at relevant forums Stay current with renewable energy technology trends, policy changes, and market developments Build relationships with key industry stakeholders and other industry bodies Key Requirements: Essential Experience Minimum 10+ years business development within freight forwarding: strategic selling in general cargo / project logistics / project delivery Proven track record in renewable energy, infrastructure, or major project industries Experience with utility-scale renewable energy and power generation projects (preferred) Strong understanding of Australian transport regulations, heavy haulage, port operations, and logistics networks Commercial experience with complex B2B contract negotiations and relationship management Industry Knowledge Deep understanding of renewable energy supply chain and logistics requirements Knowledge of specialized Australian transport providers Familiarity with Australian renewable energy market players, OEM's, developers, and EPCs Understanding of project development timelines and critical path logistics requirements Awareness of regulatory environment and follow grid connection processes and key project milestones Leadership & Commercial Skills Proven ability to build and maintain a portfolio of high-level clients in Australia and offshore Strong P&L management and commercial acumen Excellent stakeholder management and relationship building skills Strategic thinking with ability to identify and capitalize on market opportunities Strong presentation and communication skills Personal Attributes Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to build new business lines from ground up Results-driven with track record of exceeding targets Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects High level of commercial awareness and business acumen Ability to travel across Australia and internationally as required What's on Offer: Competitive base salary Performance-based bonus structure Car Allowance & Fuel Card Superannuation Professional development opportunitiesAn Opportunity to shape and lead an expansion in these sectors Work with cutting-edge renewable energy technologies and industry leaders Interstate and some overseas travel Reporting Structure: This role reports directly to the CEO/Managing Director and will have full autonomy to build and develop the renewable energy projects division.
