The Role We’re looking for a creative and technically skilled Designer to join our Apparel Design team and help bring Oroton’s seasonal collections to life. Working alongside Oroton's Creative Director, Senior Designers, Pattern Makers, Production and offshore manufacturers, you will ensure product specifications are clear, achievable and aligned with our brand DNA. This role will contribute strongly to concept development, seasonal range planning, sketch delivery and prototype review, supporting the full creative and product lifecycle while meeting critical path timelines and quality expectations. We are looking for a Designer with bold ideas and fresh takes that capture the latest trends whilst staying true to Oroton's classic and wearable style. This is a permanent, full-time position based in our Abbotsford Design Studio in Melbourne. Key responsibilities include: Research and present seasonal trends, mood boards and concepts aligned to briefs and brand direction. Support concept creation and develop detailed technical sketches using Illustrator, maintaining accurate design records. Create toiles, mock-ups and lab dip work cards, and collaborate on fabric sourcing and approvals. Cross-check merchandise plans with design and costing records to ensure accuracy and margin alignment. Manage initial sample specifications and support the preparation of product presentations. Track sample progress against the critical path and maintain communication with offshore manufacturing partners. Review prototypes with Senior Designers and communicate clear technical feedback to vendors and production teams. Liaise with fabric agents and manufacturers to resolve garment engineering and construction issues. Partner with Production, Retail and Merchandising teams on costing, product knowledge and sample approvals. Build strong, proactive relationships with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure on-time delivery of high-quality product. What we are looking for: Tertiary qualification in Fashion Design. At least 3–4 years’ experience in apparel design, technical design and/or pattern making. Experience working with fit models and pattern makers. High proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, with strong skills across the Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office. Demonstrated ability to research trends, create mood boards and develop brand-relevant concepts. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across design, merchandise, production and retail teams. Highly organised, proactive and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Excellent time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Willingness to travel overseas when required for factory visits, design inspiration trips and production support.
