Food Technologist – New Product Development

Our production facility in Pakenham supports a wide range of services, from custom formulation, powder blending, capsule and sachet filling, to marketing, in-house testing, and distribution. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a highly skilled and driven Food Technologist to lead the build‑out of our New Product Development (NPD) capabilities. The Opportunity This newly created role is an opportunity to make your mark by shaping how product innovation is done at Superior Formulations. You will take ownership of our NPD framework, ensuring that new ideas become compliant, commercially viable, high‑performance products that deliver on both flavour and function. You will work closely with Management, production, and other internal teams to lead NPD from concept through to launch, playing a pivotal role in how we continue to deliver high‑quality sports supplements and health products. Your Responsibilities Will Include Leading end‑to‑end NPD : from ideation, concept development, bench trials and formulation, through to factory scale‑up and launch. Building and managing a robust NPD process , ensuring efficiency, traceability, and regulatory compliance. Working hands‑on in our R&D lab to conduct formulation trials, flavour profiling, stability assessments and shelf‑life testing. Collaborating with clients to develop innovative, market‑ready formulations in the sports, lifestyle and wellness supplement space. Supporting the transition from lab to production , including BOM creation, production instructions, and packaging compatibility. Evaluating and integrating new ingredients and trends into product offerings – from functional actives to natural sweeteners and flavours. Developing and maintaining technical documentation including product specifications, label claim substantiation and compliance support. Coordinating product and packaging trials with internal and external stakeholders. Contributing to continuous improvement of our formulation and development systems, processes and internal knowledge base. Your Skills & Experience Tertiary qualifications in Food Science, Nutrition, Food Technology , or a related field. Minimum 2+ years’ experience in food or nutraceutical product development – ideally in sports nutrition or functional food categories. Hands‑on experience in bench formulation , flavour development and factory scale‑up. Strong understanding of Australian food and supplement regulations (FSANZ, ANZ Food Standards Code, etc). Analytical and detail‑oriented with excellent documentation and project coordination skills. Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, small‑team environment with end‑to‑end ownership of projects. A passion for sports nutrition and a desire to help brands succeed. Familiarity with Excel, formulation software , or ERP systems (advantageous).
