Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Teacher – New Lambton Permanent part‑time (0.8 FTE) position commencing January 2026 at St Therese’s Primary School, New Lambton. Description The role focuses on supporting students and school communities in areas of curriculum, culture, spirituality, learning and wellbeing. The teacher shares responsibility with all staff for the Catholic identity and mission of the school, promotes the Diocese of Maitland‑Newcastle’s Reconciliation Action Plan, and works closely with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to incorporate Indigenous perspectives. Develop and implement Personal Learning Plans (PLPs) for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Liaise with the Principal, classroom teachers, curriculum teams, wellbeing teams, ministry teams and learning support teams. Advocate for contemporary, evidence‑based learning and wellbeing practices, including digital learning. Apply the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers in everyday practice. Adapt duties to meet the evolving needs of the school as directed by the Principal. Skills and Experiences Clear understanding of and commitment to Catholic education; for Primary or Religion positions, must also be Catholic. Ability to plan and prepare contemporary, compliant teaching programs and assessments that meet diverse student needs. Proficient in using assessment data and school metrics to optimise outcomes, especially for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Collaborative working with school staff and broader community to establish productive partnerships. Innovative and agile mindset supporting continuous improvement in the school environment. Established links with local and/or wider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. Qualifications Four‑year trained teacher with valid NESA accreditation. Being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification; submission of corroborated acknowledgment is welcomed. Current paid NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) number. Completion of anaphylaxis training. Current Senior First Aid Certificate. Unrestricted Class C driver’s licence. Willingness to comply with CSO Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead Policy (Category B or D – Accreditation to Teach or Accreditation to Teach Religion).
