We are committed to safety, customer-centricity, and operational excellence. The Opportunity We are seeking a Legal Counsel to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in managing Pacific National’s legal risk profile and ensuring the business maintains and strengthens its competitive position. You will provide high-quality, timely, and cost-effective legal advice aligned with our strategic objectives, while driving improvements in contract management, risk mitigation, and compliance frameworks. What you’ll do: Provide independent legal advice to support strategic decisions. Advise on applicable regulatory regimes, including rail industry specific legislative requirements. Draft and negotiate key commercial contracts (customer, supplier, property). Assist with dispute resolution and litigation strategy. Develop compliance programs and manage reporting obligations. Collaborate on best-practice legal tools and methodologies. Support policy development, training, and knowledge sharing. Manage external legal advisers as needed. Skills & Experience: Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent) and admitted to practice in Australia. Minimum 4 years’ legal experience in private practice and/or in-house. Strong expertise in commercial contracts; experience in property, planning, and environmental law desirable. Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment. Collaborative approach with strong interpersonal skills. Knowledge of the rail industry and logistics is advantageous.
