The opportunity Reporting to the Director, People Operations and Analytics, and leading a team of Payroll and Compliance Officers, the Manager, Payroll and Compliance will: Oversee payroll operations to ensure people are paid accurately, on time and in line with all legislation and industrial requirements Strengthen governance, risk management and assurance frameworks, and maintain audit readiness across a complex workforce environment Build capability within the payroll team, lift service quality and translate complex agreements and legislation into practical, workable processes Drive continuous improvement, modernise systems, and lead digital and automation initiatives to enhance payroll delivery and controls About you Strong background in payroll, compliance or workforce governance in a large, complex organisation Deep knowledge of payroll legislation, taxation and superannuation, with the ability to apply this in practice Confident leader who can build capability, support a team and drive improvement Skilled at working with senior stakeholders and influencing decisions Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a focus on accuracy and risk management Desirable Experience with large payroll systems such as Ascender Pay Exposure to digital transformation, automation or AI in HR or payroll Relevant professional membership or certification What’s on offer The chance to lead and modernise a critical function at one of Australia’s major universities Real scope to influence governance, compliance and digital improvement at scale A role that works closely with senior leaders and has strong organisational visibility The opportunity to develop a specialist team and shape lasting change Competitive salary, strong workplace benefits and the support of strong leadership How to Apply For a confidential discussion or role‑related questions, please contact Jacqui Fine of The Orchard Talent Group on or email To apply please submit your current CV via the link.
