Telecommunications Cable Jointer

Dawn Technocomms is seeking a skilled Telecommunications Cable Jointer to install, joint and maintain fibre and copper networks across metro and regional projects. The role involves interpreting drawings, completing pit & pipe and conduit installations, and performing high-quality cable terminations using approved techniques. You will troubleshoot network faults using specialised test equipment and ensure all work meets safety and industry standards. The position also includes maintaining accurate records and working closely with our trenching, fibre build and maintenance teams to deliver reliable telecommunications infrastructure. Responsibilities Review drawings, specifications and site conditions to determine the correct positioning and routing of fibre and copper telecommunications cables across trenching, pit & pipe, aerial and underground installations. Install, joint, terminate and seal fibre optic and copper telecommunications cables—including lead-, plastic- or thermoplastic‑sheathed cables—using approved jointing techniques and materials. Erect, align and install conduits, pits, pipes, and associated cable infrastructure in both metropolitan and regional settings to support the rollout of Dawn Technocomms’ fibre‑to‑the‑premises (FTTP) and pit & pipe networks. Troubleshoot and locate faults in cable networks using instruments such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, ammeters, transmission measuring equipment and other electronic test gear; then adjust, repair or replace faulty cables, joints or components. Install, test and maintain overhead and underground wires and cables, including transmission systems, to ensure optimal performance of the communications networks Dawn Technocomms delivers. Attach, secure and connect wires and cables to appliances, switchboards and data transmission equipment; test equipment performance and verify connectivity and integrity of the network infrastructure. Maintain accurate records of installations, joints, terminations and repairs; ensure work complies with applicable Australian industry standards, company safety protocols and regulatory requirements relevant to Dawn Technocomms’ telecommunications projects. Collaborate with project supervisors, trenching crews, fibre new‑build and maintenance teams within Dawn Technocomms to coordinate cable jointing activities, infrastructure handovers and network upgrades. Qualifications & Experience Certificate III or IV in Telecommunications, Cabling, or a closely related discipline (or equivalent qualification). 1‑2 years of relevant full‑time experience in telecommunications cable jointing, fibre/copper installation, or network infrastructure works. Proven experience in jointing, terminating and testing fibre optic and copper cables using industry‑approved tools and techniques. Ability to interpret technical drawings, plans and specifications for pit & pipe, conduit and fibre network installations. Sound understanding of Australian telecommunications standards, WHS requirements and safe work practices.
