The University of Vienna, Faculty of Chemistry, is home of the Vienna Doctoral School in Chemistry (DoSChem).

DoSChem is the largest doctoral training program in Austria focusing on the field of chemistry and closely related sciences by bringing together more than 200 doctoral students and over 50 principal investigators.

Our goal is to train excellent scientists and to provide an open-minded environment that allows them to connect with each other and to experience a scientifically rich environment to carry out interdisciplinary and curiosity-driven research.


Within the International Call for PhD Positions 2024 DoSChem offers 18 exciting PhD projects with various starting times covering all chemical sciences

Your personal sphere of influence

1 (Planstelle PhD position in Synthetic Organic Chemistry within the Institute of Organic Chemistry;
2 (Planstelle PhD position in Structural Biology of RNA metabolism in the group of Assoc.
Prof. Falk, at the Max Perutz Labs, Institute of Structural and Computational Biology.

The employment duration is 3 years.

Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to
3 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.


Your future tasks

:

  • Participation in research projects / research studies
  • Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations
  • Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
  • Supervision of students
  • Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums
  • Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration.

The language of the school is English; therefore, English is required, German is an advantage

Further expectations are:

  • Strong communication, data presentation and visualization skills
  • Ability to work both, independently and collaboratively
  • Involvement in the institute's and research administration and teaching activities

1 (Planstelle :

  • Applicants must hold a 1st Class Honors degree (or equivalent) in Organic Chemistry by the time of the appointment
  • Experience in heterocyclic chemistry could be regarded as an added value

2 (Planstelle :

  • Master of Science (Biochemistry, Chemistry or Biology)
  • Experience with producing and purifying proteins and protein complexes and characterizing proteinprotein interactions and enzymatic activities
  • Basic knowledge in the area of structural biology

Fair salary

The basic salary of EUR 3578,80 (on a full-time basis) increases if we can credit professional experience.
