The research groups of Arndt von Haeseler and Jörg Menche at the Max Perutz Labs at the University of Vienna at the Department of Structural and Computational Biology are recruiting a highly motivated joint PhD student.

The Max Perutz Labs are a joint venture of the University of Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna.

Located at the Campus Vienna Biocenter the Max Perutz Labs are home to over 450 scientists from over 30 nations organized in 62 groups working in the field of molecular biology.


The employment contract is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to a total of 4 years, unless the employer declares non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months.


Duration of employment: 4 year/s

Extent of Employment: 30 hours/week

Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: -48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Participation in research, teaching and administration:

  • Participation in research projects / research studies
  • Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations
  • Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
  • Supervision of students
  • Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums
  • Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration

Profile:

  • Professional competence training in Systems Biology with focus on biological networks
  • Methodological competence Proven competence of network science, image analysis, and working with largescale databases.
  • Experience working with different omics datasets and genetic screens
  • Didactic competence Experience with course organization, teaching and assignments/homework preparation
  • High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English


 IT user skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Experience working with international collaboration partners and working on several projects simultaneously.
  • You need to have successfully passed the VBC-PhD selection
  • Teaching experience
  • Experience of working on research projects and academic writing
